Song to listen to while reading this chapter: "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" by AC/DC
Wow. Definitely the most controversial chapter in a while. Let's get right into it.
So we start off with Kenpachi, as expected, not being taken out of the fight by that measly cut on his chest and demanding an explanation, which Gerard happily provides: his miracles are the will of the masses given form. Anyone else reminded of Mask and The Superstar here? (In fact, anyone else think Gerard and Mask were total broskis before all this?) Funnily enough, Kenpachi is the one to lean on the fourth wall and point out how cliched Gerard is acting, so Gerard responds with "you don't even know how far apart we are", and Hitsugaya is just stunned by how well they fit each other. Geez, you should've seen Kenpachi vs. Nnoitra, friendo. Kenpachi and Gerard begin fighting again, with Kenpachi employing some sick wall-running maneuvers, but Hitsugaya tries to intervene with Guncho Tsurara of all things, so Kenpachi bashes him out of the way. Classic.
Hitsugaya tries to protest, but Kenpachi cuts him off and goes back to fighting with, as Hitsugaya points out, his eyepatch off, indicating Gerard's power level. Byakuya notes that they're all running out of steam, and Hitsugaya formulates a plan to freeze and shatter Gerard by combining their power. Meanwhile, Kenpachi himself starts losing strength, and so Gerard smashes him into the ground before interrupting Hitsugaya and Byakuya's attempted assault
with a mighty BBBBBAAAAKAMONOGAAAAAAA. As Gerard takes this opportune moment to proclaim that he's the best like no one ever was, none other than Yachiru appears before Kenpachi, questioning why he's lying there like that when the fun has only just begun. With Kenpachi very much confused, Yachiru takes his hand and reprimands him for not "using her" properly before revealing that he's feeling the power known as...Bankai.
Okay, let's get a couple things out of the way here. First, until next chapter comes with an explanation I'm not gonna immediately accept that Yachiru is his Zanpakutō Spirit because from what we've seen, that makes no sense. Secondly, as for Kenpachi himself having Bankai...I don't know how to feel. I've been campaigning against it from the start because I couldn't think of how he'd achieve it in this arc after only just getting his Shikai, but I can't deny that I wanna know what it is. Either way, as I said before, definitely controversial.
