We now have an official Facebook page, where we'll be posting these blogs, the podcasts, and presumably anything else interesting that happens, so feel free to begin following said page so we can further clog your feed. We've also got a Youtube channel, so if you subscribe to that you'll have another way of knowing when we get these podcasts up, as well as an easy way to access the older ones.
Song to listen to while reading this chapter: "Blumenkanye" by Kanye West vs. Cyua
Well hot diggity.
So we start off with Mayuri admitting that he's out of practice with operating on his own arm - which is not something that should be a frequent action for just about anyone - and Pernida, now displaying the ability to speak in proper sentences, takes this to mean that Mayuri is becoming nervous. However, Mayuri flashes one of his classic troll faces to show that he's not yet nervous, so Pernida decides to force this by creating another hand out of its severed finger, which leaps(?) toward Mayuri like some sort of demented frog monster. Not one to be deterred by mere self-replicating hands, Mayuri throws an explosion at the thing and claims it's gonna be hard to take samples if they keep growing like this, but Pernida isn't having any such sass in its household, so it rips off its middle finger (which, tactically, is an awful idea - how else will you spite the man?) to form yet another copy of itself, as though it were some sort of cell undergoing division.
Upon seeing this, Mayuri has a brief flashback to the quaint days of his youth, where he read a book that, for some reason, contained information about the big SK: specifically, about his arms, wherein the right and left had the purposes of "stopping" and "advancing", respectively. Not quite sure how that ties into what's currently happening, but oh well. Moving right along, Mayuri decides it's high time to get srs and prepares to activate his Bankai. However, when Yumichika mentions the poison it unleashes, Mayuri claims that he's not gonna poison Pernida and unleashes
North West Konjiki Ashisogi Jizō: Makai Fukuin Shōtai, the latter part of the name of which I'm not even gonna attempt to translate, and explains that this is a modified version of his normal Bankai, made specifically to counter abilities of his opponents using data he's collected.
Cue a Konjiki Ashisogi Jizō (never though I'd have to use an article, definite or indefinite, for a Bankai) bursting out of the baby and immediately screaming. Apparently, this isn't Kubo being 2real4manga, but the result of the Konjiki Ashisogi Jizō having nerves on the surface of its skin, which leaves it in constant pain from simply being exposed to air. Ouch. When Pernida attacks it, though, Mayuri reveals that this feature has another purpose; the nerves are divided into 70000 different layers, so if Pernida invades one, it simply peels off and the Konjiki Ashisogi Jizō keeps moving. The Konjiki Ashisogi Jizō proceeds to devour Pernida and its clones as Nemu watches from afar with a "I'm going to be relevant starting next chapter" look on her face.
Overall, a very interesting chapter. Pernida being able to clone itself was cool, but as with the Hirenkyaku Shoes from the previous chapter, Mayuri's modified Bankai stole the show for being both unexpected yet completely reasonable. It was established during his fight with Szayel that he could modify his Bankai to some extent if necessary, so him being able to effectively create an entirely different version altogether feels like a natural progression of that, although it certainly is a creepy way of expanding it. However, given the ending text and Nemu's watching from afar, this fight is clearly not over just yet, so let's all get hyped for some Nemu action next week.
Oh, and apparently we'll also have another color page next week as well, which I'm personally excited for because we haven't had one in 22 CHAPTERS. I'mm guessing it'll be of Mayuri.
