Just wanted to say that this list is simply my opinion and might (and should) cause disagreements here and there. Basically the Bankai(s) presented in this list are what I believe are the strongest and or most useful in the series. They aren’t placed in finicky order, but are still on the list because of their respective strengths, adaptability, functionality, etc. Sadly some Bankai are not included for a couple of reasons despite their awesomeness because we don’t know the full capabilities of their power (sorry Ichigo, Zaraki and Ichimaru). Let’s get roighttt intooo the noose

1. Renji Abarai - Sōō Zabimaru
564Soo Zabimaru

Renji’s new Bankai is actually a huge improvement over his clunky and huge Bankai that never really impressed me. His new Bankai which is a more compact form, is not only more versatile, allowing him to extend a blade from his snake skull, but also has a skeletal arm that mimics his movement. I think this Bankai, while admittedly doesn’t have a lot of new moves, is very adaptable and well suited to Renji’s close up fighting skills. All in all, a pretty good Bankai, more suited for a character of Renji’s caliber.

2. Rukia Kuchiki – Hakka no Togame
570Hakka no Togame

One – Hit – Kill – That’s the Bankai in a nutshell. Rukia goes absolute zero on a fool and kills them in a second. Honestly, this is a great Bankai with a reasonable weakness, which is that it has a time limit, and Rukia has to thaw out slowly. How can anyone defend against this Bankai??? Rukia freakin transforms into this snow-hime and freezes everything in a certain radius, forcing the fool who faced her to crumble into pieces of ice. Well done Kubo, great Bankai, just wish we could’ve seen more of it.

3. Sajin Komamura - Kokujō Tengen Myō'ō
557Komamura vs. Bambietta

This Bankai used by former Squad Seven Captain, Sajin Komamura is a very strong Bankai in that it forms a giant that mimics his movement. The strength of this armoured giant proportionally is much greater than Komamura himself dealing colossal amount of damage. In terms of durability, during his fight with Choe Neng Poww (I know its anime = non-canon), the Bankai received no damage from a point blank cero and receive no damage, while also being really fast for something of that size. The one disadvantage of this Bankai which is also reasonable is that the damage the Bankai receives is felt by Sajin as well (Though through healing, the Bankai is also fixed). Another benefit of this Bankai was that Sajin’s half human form gave birth to a newer form of his Bankai, Kokujō Tengen Myō'ō: Dangai Jōe has all the advantages of the original Bankai except it cannot take damage because it’s a being of only reiatsu. I think this is a great Bankai, and is only strong, but adaptable

4. Kisuke Urahara - Kannonbiraki Benihime Atarame
664Kannonbiraki Benihime Aratame

So this Bankai did not disappoint at all, even with small screen time (It’s just that damn good). This is not a conventional power Bankai we’ve been accustomed to throughout the series, but a strategic Bankai that can change the playing field. During his fight against Askin, Kisuke’s use of his Bankai was well thought out not relying on only offense on its part, but to strengthen his body. I think Kubo spent a lot of time formulating this Bankai, and it was one of the best moments of the disappointing arc. Honestly, the Bankai which is very well balanced having a decent range and its ability to restructure matter is a very original and well crafted Bankai on Kubo’s part.

5. Mayuri Kurotsuchi - Konjiki Ashisogi Jizō
639Konjiki Ashisogi Jizo bursts

Bleach’s second resident genius, Squad 12 captain Mayuri Kurotsuchi has in my opinion a slightly underrated Bankai, especially when looking at its versatility. It’s base form not only spreads poison (the composition is changed everytime) at around 200 metres, but can host blades in its body and self destruct at will. Mayuri’s use of his Bankai is what’s really commendable is that whennecessary, Mayuri can unleash a modified form of his Bankai. The modified versions can be used to specifically counteract the abilities of certain enemies, giving Mayuri an edge with his Bankai. Personally, this is one of my favorite Bankai in the series because of the vast amount of abilities it can possess, and depends on the intelligence and creativity of the user, which Mayuri has in droves.

6. Suì-Fēng - Jakuhō Raikōben
Soifonbankai

Well it was difficult for me to put this on the list for 2 reasons – 1. It isn’t related to the abilities of her Shikai at all – poison to boom shakalaka and 2. Its usage in the series hasn’t been the most effective. But I find it hard to discredit how damn awesome a freakin missile is, and that’s why it is on the list, Now obviously this Bankai is extremely powerful, severely injuring Baraggan who’s one of the most OP characters in the series, and cracking a powerful kido barrier, and I find it to be so random it should at least be on the list. It’s a good enough Bankai, not the best, but nowhere near the worst (Check out my top 10 worst Bankai list).

7. Byakuya Kuchiki - Senbonzakura Kageyoshi
671Ikkasen Jinka

This in my opinion is what a perfect Bankai should be with its flexibility, range of abilities, and sheer power expanding on what the Shikai can do. Not only can it summon numerous blades for both offense and defense, it can surround and crush the enemy, and it can turn into one huge sword and make Byakuya fly!!! This Bankai also doesn’t really have any discernible weaknesses except for a hurtless zone that can be used by the enemy. The beautiful thing about this weakness is that Byakuya can determine the size of this hurtless zone, so it’s manageable. This Bankai is simply too good not to be on this list and is the model Bankai for a model shinigami like Byakuya.

8. Tōshirō Hitsugaya - Daiguren Hyōrinmaru
671Adult Hitsugaya

This Bankai suffers from being overused as hell, but the possibilities it can do with ice and water are nearly endless. As long there is water in the atmosphere, unlike conventional Bankai, Daiguren Hyōrinmaru cannot be broken or damaged because it’ll just reform. Despite the repetition it suffers, the base Bankai is very powerful and Toshiro holds out very well and even defeats third Espada, Tia Halibel with it. Now the beauty of the Bankai is that it’s not completed and that the completed form is monstrous. By forcing his body to mature, Toshiro’s real Bankai can freeze all matter, including reishi which is damn awesome and I think personally puts him around one of the G.O.A.T’s of the Gotei in the war period.

9. Ichibē Hyōsube - Shirafude Ichimonji
609Shirafude Ichimonji

Bruhhhhh this Bankai is broken.... so freakin broken. Ma D. Monk over here can change your name and s such you become as powerful as the association of the name. He names you Peanut butter, you’re screwed. He names you donut, you’re screwed. He names you Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, and you’ll be irrelevant. In all seriousness though, this is a damn cool Bankai and unless you’re also broken, you can’t beat the Bankai because you no longer have an identity that’ll help you. Verdict: Great Bankai

10. Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto - Zanka no Tachi
Yamamoto bankai

OMG this Bankai was everything I expected from a guy of his rank, and it was completely savage and cruel. I actually felt bad for fake Yhwach because this Bankai was evil..... when you bring back the zombies of the fools you’ve killed, that’s when you know a Bankai is damn tremendous. With this Bankai, Yamamoto is as hot as the Sun, son. He can’t even be touched by scrubs like fake Yhwach and can eviscerate everything out of existence just by simply touching it. No matter how you may feel about his unceremonious ending, Zanka no Tachi is the premier Bankai in that it’s so overpowered that it’d not only destroy the enemy, but the Seireitei and even Yamamoto himself.
