In the world of Bleach, it was first thought that the Soul King was the one that created everything – Soul Society, Hueco Mundo, the human world. But in one chapter of the light novel, We Do Knot Always Love You, it was stated that it was the Zero Division that put the Soul King into where he is now – the lynchpin. And then, later on the same thing happened with Juha Bach’s dead remains. They sealed his body, containing all the power that the Soul King previously had.
Now what does this have to do with the title of this blog? Throughout millennia, people have always used a supreme being as a form of objective ruler – an unpaid babysitter, just so primitive humans won’t run amuck causing anarchy. Kings, dictators and politicians have used this leverage time and time again. The same thing can be applied in Bleach.
In one of Yamamoto’s flashbacks, it was stated that Soul Society has always been in chaos. It wasn’t clear as to how they maintained peace, nor who were the original Gotei 13 and Zero Squad, aside from Unohana and Yamamoto himself. It was also unclear as to who the Soul King really was – what his intentions are, where he came from. We can only speculate. I speculate that the Soul King is not just an entity, but is also a force of nature. And so is Juha Bach. It would explain why Juha Bach would always come back, no matter how many times he is killed. He and the Soul King are the embodiment of the inevitable – the end of all existence.
Now humanity is always stubborn. They will try and strive to gain more, causing chaos along the way. And so some of them feel the need to put a boundary to all this chaos, a “lynchpin”, namely a supreme being – be it a king, a government… or a God. Sounds familiar?
