Hey before I start my review of Bleach episode 298, I have a quick in announcement. As most of you are aware, last month the Bleach wiki underwent some major changes in formatting. While editing is now a lot easier for me, there are some issues with the new format. Many of you have likely found that locating blogs and voting have become increasingly difficult. So in order to make locating my blogs and other great blogs, like Lia Schiffer and Godisme's weekly Bleach manga reviews, and to vote for your favorite articles, pictures, and quotes every month, please click the link posted below.
- But remember to follow the Voting Policy otherwise your vote will not count. Main points - members must have been actively contributing to the wiki this month, must be members for over 1 month, must give valid reasons and vote for article quality instead of favorite characters.
I will add these links to my blog every week starting with my review of episode 298.
Ok that is the end of the announcements, review time!
Ok quick episode recap
In order to pay for the damages for the recent disasters in the Seireitei, Nanao proposes a film festival to help raise funds. Ichigo is dragged unwillingly into Squads 4 and 7's coproduction, and later is dragged into Renji/Squad 6's movie. Renji proposes to make a film starring Rukia and chaos ensues. The film festival turns out to be a success (except while the squad's were making their films, they caused more damage than before).
Ok when I saw this week's episode preview last week...(lets just leave it at that) I thought this episode will be a total cataclysmic disaster or it would be great. Thankfully, it was the latter one. When I saw the episode this morning, I will admit at first I had my doubts, but luckily I was proven wrong. This episode was well draw, well animated, funny, and the whole concept of the Soul Society making movies was a very fun and creative concept. For a non-cannon Bleach episode, it was done extremely well. Plus I am a sucker for satirical and pop-culture humor(I am a huge Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert fan) and this episode helped supplied me with enough smirks to make Gin Ichimaru very proud (KUBO WHY!). I mean the joke/jab towards maid/moe anime was priceless. When Renji said, "We incorporated the latest trend. We can't attract moviegoers if we don't incorporate the latest trends you know." Plus I love Uryū's cape fetish! Plus I loved the cameo in this episode. If you look closely at the beginning of the episode, the soul reaper director, is actually based off of Bleach series director Noriyuki Abe.
And of course we can't forget Byakuya! Byakuya is always funny in these types of episodes, because he is so serious and plays everything strait forward. He doesn't try to be funny and that is what makes it so humorous. THE OMAKE...OH MY GOD! THAT OMAKE IS NOW MY ALL TIME FAVORITE! I mean first Hiyori in the maid outfit(I was actually scared a little), but once Shinji put her in the Godzila-escue outfit, I almost fell put of my chair this morning (thankfully I didn't because I had work to do, I know it's shocking I actually have a life outside of Bleach *twilight zone music plays* ).
The preview for next week features faces we have not seen for quite sometime. I already know the basic plot-line for the episode, but I do not want to spoil it for anyone.
OK final rundown
- Story 8/10
- Animation 8/10
- Acting 9/10
- Music 10/10
- Omake 1,000,000/10
Overall I give Bleach episode 298 an 8 out of 10.
