Hey Everyone it's that time of the week again. I found out some info on why the dub on adult swim is cropped to 4:3 SD. A few weeks ago a fan of the show asked Viz on Facebook why is was cropped. Viz replied "Thanks for watching, and good eye! Currently Cartoon Network/Adult Swim doesn't accept the Japanese broadcast format(16:9), so we deliver the 4:3 version to Cartoon Network. *sigh*"

The likely case is that AS does not want to pay for the HD broadcast fee and the SD broadcast fee (very pricy) so this gives me the indication it will be in widescreen on dvd, and I am going to contact someone at Viz later about the possibility of blu-ray. You might ask why is FMA and Kekkaishi in widescreen. First thing is that Kekkaishi is not an HD production. The reason for FMA Brotherhood is in widescreen is because it was not actually made in HD, Bones pulled a fast one and made it in SD and upscaled it to HD for broadcast and blu-ray releases. Studio Pierrot is one of the few animation studios that makes and broadcast in HD for all of their current productions.

So that answers that, so on with the review! But, before I begin please remember to vote for March's Featured Article, Featured Picture and Featured Quote

WOW!!! (claps) Hank Matthews you are BEAST!!! Hank's voice has made me fall in love with Szayel. Hank has made him sound so homo-erratic it's ridiculous! He has stayed very true to Kōsuke Toriumi's performance, yet at the same time has made it his own (and in my opinion, I think Hank did a better job of staying closer to the persona of his manga counter-part. Kōsuke IN NO WAY did a bad job, I just like Hank better). The line "Yoo hoo check out my new toy" just made laugh and left me feeling very disturbed at the same time.

Even though Szayel's Zanpakutō's name was changed (can't drop the F-bomb on tv), the way Hank says it is to die for! He says it so lustfully it just makes my ears melt. Hank has also given Szayel one of the sexiest evil laughs I have ever heard. Now I am slightly sad that he (Szayel) is going to die in a few episodes.

We also got back to the Nel/Nnoitra fight, plus both Michael and Colleen got the "sword speech" perfectly. Again Colleen is so awesome as Nel, I CAN'T WAIT FOR NEXT WEEK! Episode 194 is one of my favorite episodes (for obvious reasons...heh heh).

Everyone else gave wonderful performances and it was a very enjoyable episode to watch. The script adaptation was particularly well done in this episode. The dialogue for the most part, flowed very smoothly, and all the essential information was give, while at the same time some creative liberties were taken.

Final Rundown

  • Story 8/10
  • Art/Animation 8.5/10
  • Sound Effects 9/10
  • Script adaptation 9.5/10
  • Music 8/10
  • Acting 9.5/10

My final Score for Bleach episode 193 dubbed is a 8.75 out of 10. Remember to join me on Tuesday when I review Bleach episode 311, and join me next week when I review Bleach 194 dubbed.
