Masked Tōjū[]

The Masked Tōjū is one of the first two Tōjū to appear during the Tōjū Campaign.

Appearance[]

The Masked Tōjū takes the form of a tall, well-toned man with small pupils. His biceps and his forearms have blue-grey strips of cloth wrapped around them, and his head is almost entirely masked by these bandages, leaving only his eyes and ears exposed. He wears baggy white pants and a blue-rimmed orange band wrapped around his waist, with a vertical strip going up his torso and splitting into two pieces in order to extend over each shoulder before meeting again at his upper back.[1]

Personality[]

The Masked Tōjū is very aggressive and destructive, indiscriminately destroying various pieces of furniture and food during a party at the Kuchiki Manor and attacking Rukia Kuchiki upon encountering her. He has a habit of yelling when attacking. Senbonzakura theorizes that he likes parties.[1]

History[]

After being manifested by Muramasa, the Masked Tōjū turned on and killed his master, which turned him into a Tōjū.[1]

Senbonzakura saves Sode no Shirayuki

Senbonzakura defeats the Masked Tōjū.

During a party at the Kuchiki Manor, the Masked Tōjū and the Satyr Tōjū appear in one of the rooms and begin destroying everything they find. When Rukia Kuchiki confronts them and realizes she does not have her Zanpakutō, the Masked Tōjū attacks her, forcing Rukia to dodge. Sode no Shirayuki appears outside and uses Tsugi no mai, Hakuren, which destroys one of the walls and engulfs the two Tōjū with a flood of ice and snow. After Sode no Shirayuki briefly clashes with the Satyr Tōjū, who runs away, the Masked Tōjū attacks her, only for Senbonzakura to appear and cut him down. Afterwards, to the surprise of those present, the Masked Tōjū bursts into flames and turns into a sealed Zanpakutō. This Zanpakutō is later brought to Mayuri Kurotsuchi, who uses it to determine the power and nature of the Tōjū.[1]

Equipment[]

Sword: The Masked Tōjū wields a large sword. It has a large black weight on the end of the pommel, white cloth wrapped around the hilt, and a thick black blade, which widens toward its end to form a anvil-shaped pick and which has a white edge.[1]

Powers & Abilities[]

High Spiritual Power: As a Tōjū, the Masked Tōjū possesses a considerable amount of Reiryoku.[1]

Enhanced Strength: The Masked Tōjū possesses a large amount of physical strength, effortlessly smashing his sword through wooden floorboards and various objects.[1]

Enhanced Speed: The Masked Tōjū is a considerably fast combatant. He managed to catch Sode no Shirayuki off-guard by moving behind her.[1]

Satyr Tōjū[]

The Satyr Tōjū is one of the first two Tōjū to appear during the Tōjū Campaign.

Appearance[]

The Satyr Tōjū takes the form of a tall, muscular, green-skinned man with an inward-pointing, spiraling horn on either side of his head and two symmetrical, spiked red stripes starting in the back of his head, running down his face and curving away toward the sides of his abdomen upon reaching his neck before ending on his lower back. He also has a shorter spiked red stripe crossing his upper back. He has red-gray fur growing on his forearms and lower body, and wears red leggings with a golden hem which reach from his kneecaps to his heels. He wears a black apron, which is emblazoned with the kanji for sake (酒, shu), tied around his waist with a strip of white cloth, and is bare-footed.[1]

Personality[]

The Satyr Tōjū is very aggressive and destructive, indiscriminately destroying various pieces of furniture and food during a party at the Kuchiki Manor and relentlessly attacking Rukia Kuchiki and Sode no Shirayuki during their battle. However, he is somewhat cowardly, running away from Sode no Shirayuki when the latter repels his attack. Senbonzakura theorizes that he likes parties, and he has a habit of laughing in battle.[1]

History[]

After being manifested by Muramasa, the Satyr Tōjū turned on and killed his master, which turned him into a Tōjū.[1]

The Satyr Tōjū clashes with Sode no Shirayuki.

During a party at the Kuchiki Manor, the Satyr Tōjū and Masked Tōjū appear in one of the room and begin destroying everything they find, only for Rukia Kuchiki to confront them. After Sode no Shirayuki appears and uses Tsugi no mai, Hakuren on him and the Masked Tōjū, the Satyr Tōjū attacks her with his claws. When Sode no Shirayuki easily repels his attack, the Satyr Tōjū runs away while the Masked Tōjū attacks Sode no Shirayuki. At night, the Satyr Tōjū shows up long after another party is thrown to lure him out and begins attacking several unseated Shinigami, only for Rukia and Sode no Shirayuki to confront him.[1]

The Satyr Tōjū overwhelms Sode no Shirayuki.

The Satyr Tōjū reveals an ability to spin around at high speeds and uses it to effortlessly overpower Rukia. However, Sode no Shirayuki manages to briefly slow him down by blasting snow at him while he is not spinning, though the Satyr Tōjū negates this by spinning to deflect the snow and begins to overwhelm Sode no Shirayuki. Eventually, Rukia and Sode no Shirayuki seemingly defeat him by using Hadō #33. Sōkatsui and Some no mai, Tsukishiro against him in rapid succession, but the Satyr Tōjū manages to break free, wounding Rukia in the process. After moving out of the courtyard, Rukia and Sode no Shirayuki realize what they must do, and Sode no Shirayuki returns to Rukia's sword, allowing her to use Tsugi no mai, Hakuren and finally defeat the Satyr Tōjū. Later, the Satyr Tōjū is transported to the Shinigami Research and Development Institute, where Mayuri Kurotsuchi gleefully prepares to perform experiments on him.[1]

Equipment[]

Claws: The Satyr Tōjū wears a red gauntlet with three long, golden claws on either wrist. He uses these claws as his sole means of attack.[1]

The Satyr Tōjū's Reiatsu.

High Spiritual Power: As a Tōjū, the Satyr Tōjū possesses a considerable amount of Reiryoku. He fought evenly against Rukia Kuchiki and Sode no Shirayuki prior to them combining their power, with Sode no Shirayuki noting the Satyr Tōjū would destroy her if she failed to distance herself. His Reiatsu is violet.[1]

Enhanced Strength: The Satyr Tōjū possesses a large amount of physical strength, effortlessly smashing through wooden floorboards with his claws. He can burst through a stone wall with a single blow, and is strong enough to throw one of his claws with enough force to puncture a stone wall and shatter the ice pillar created by Some no mai, Tsukishiro from within. He can leap high into the air in order to perform powerful diving attacks.[1]

Enhanced Speed: The Satyr Tōjū is a very fast combatant, keeping Sode no Shirayuki completely on the defensive with his rapid attacks during their second encounter.[1]

SpinningAttack

The Satyr Tōjū uses his Spinning Attack.

  • Spinning Attack: The Satyr Tōjū possesses the ability to spin around at high speeds in order to attack his opponents. While using this technique, his strikes possess enough force to send a lieutenant-level combatant flying away, and he can dissipate energy attacks with his whirling claws.[1]

Enhanced Durability: The Satyr Tōjū is a considerably durable combatant, emerging uninjured after being hit by Hadō #33. Sōkatsui twice and being encased in an ice pillar by Some no mai, Tsukishiro.[1]

Hollow Tōjū[]


The Hollow Tōjū is a Tōjū who is devoured by and fuses with a Hollow after appearing in the Human World.

Appearance[]

The Hollow Tōjū originally takes the form of a young man with black eyes. He wears a baggy, ragged pink robe that covers his upper body and ends in two coattails, and knee-length gray pants tied to his waist with a strip of gray-violet fabric. He is bare-footed, and is bald.[2]

Eventually, this Tōjū is consumed by a Hollow and fuses with it, leading to a drastic change in appearance. He becomes much larger and has gray skin, completely yellow eyes, a Hollow-like mask with large horns on either side and a smaller mouth within his mouth, an elongated neck, white bone pads on his shoulders, a somewhat gaunt upper torso with a Hollow hole between his pectorals, and brown fur on his forearms and legs. He has small spikes protruding from his elbows, large white hands, a ball-shaped lower torso that is covered in brown fur and black protrusions, and skeletal feet.[2]

Personality[]

In both of his forms, the Hollow Tōjū is very aggressive, relentlessly attacking Ichigo Kurosaki, Rangiku Matsumoto, Haineko, and Orihime Inoue upon encountering them on two separate occasions. However, he does not know that he killed his master, and continues to seek him out, even after merging with the Hollow.[2]

The Hollow Tōjū clashes with Ichigo.

After crashing into a construction site in the Human World, the Hollow Tōjū is confronted by Ichigo Kurosaki and attacks him. When Ichigo wonders who he is, the Hollow Tōjū demands to know where his master is, causing Ichigo to realize he is a Zanpakutō spirit as Tōshirō Hitsugaya confirms this. The Hollow Tōjū leaps into the air and attempts to escape, only to be slashed across the chest by Hitsugaya. However, a train rushing past provides cover for the Hollow Tōjū's escape. Later on, the Hollow Tōjū takes refuge in an alleyway and resolves to find his master before encountering a Hollow, which devours him as Hitsugaya notes his Reiatsu disappeared.[2]

At night, Rangiku Matsumoto, Haineko, and Orihime Inoue walk along in search of the Hollow Tōjū, with Rangiku noting there is something strange about his Reiatsu. The transformed Hollow Tōjū appears on a bundle of containers suspended above them and cuts the rope, causing the containers to fall onto the group. Though Orihime protects them with Santen Kesshun, the Hollow Tōjū moves to the ground and slams Haineko into a wall before demanding to know where his master is. However, Ichigo appears and saves Haineko, slashing the Hollow Tōjū's arm in the process. Seeing this, the Hollow Tōjū moves to a nearby wall with Sonído and runs off.[2]

When Ichigo chases after him inside of a nearby construction site, the Hollow Tōjū clashes with him several times with his spear before leaping out onto the top of a crane. The Hollow Tōjū turns around to find Ichigo standing behind him as he proclaims he will end this here. As Zangetsu explains what happened to him to Ichigo, the Hollow Tōjū rushes forward, only for Ichigo to send his spear flying away with a swing of his sword and apologize for having to kill him. The Hollow Tōjū fires a powerful red Cero at Ichigo, who is forced to block, but is finally killed when Hitsugaya has Hyōrinmaru encase him in a large amount of ice.[2]

Equipment[]

Spear: In both of his forms, the Hollow Tōjū wields a long spear. It has a knife-shaped blade on one end, and there is a long strip of red fabric tied around it. Prior to the Hollow Tōjū fusing with the Hollow, the blade would leave a glowing blue trail whenever the Hollow Tōjū attacked.[2]

Powers & Abilities[]

High Spiritual Power: As a Tōjū, the Hollow Tōjū possesses a considerable amount of Reiryoku, temporarily putting pressure on Ichigo Kurosaki when fighting him. His power was enhanced upon fusing with the Hollow, allowing him to effortlessly overwhelm Haineko and clash evenly with Ichigo several times during their second encounter.[2]

Naginatajutsu

The Hollow Tōjū's Naginatajutsu style.

Naginatajutsu Master: The Hollow Tōjū is very proficient in wielding his spear in combat, using it to clash evenly with a master swordsman like Ichigo. Prior to fusing with the Hollow, he frequently performs spinning attacks which make use of torque to deliver powerful blows with both hands on his spear. After fusing with the Hollow, he uses it in a much more practical and brutal manner, performing fast and powerful strikes against his opponent while wielding it with only one hand.[2]

Enhanced Strength: Prior to fusing with the Hollow, the Hollow Tōjū is strong enough to leap high into the air and perform powerful strikes with his spear. After fusing with the Hollow, the Hollow Tōjū possesses an even larger amount of strength, effortlessly slamming Haineko into a wall with enough force to crater it with one hand.[2]

Sonído: The Hollow Tōjū can use Sonído after fusing with the Hollow, and is fast enough to catch Haineko completely off-guard by moving to her, grabbing her, and slamming her into a wall before she can even react.[2]

The Hollow Tōjū fires his Cero.

Cero: After merging with the Hollow, the Hollow Tōjū can fire a large red Cero from his mouth. This Cero is powerful enough to force Ichigo to block it with his Shikai and remain unable to push through it.[2]

Enhanced Endurance: The Hollow Tōjū is a considerably enduring combatant. He managed to fight Ichigo despite having sustained a deep wound to his abdomen, and survived being slashed across the chest by Tōshirō Hitsugaya. After fusing with the Hollow, the Hollow Tōjū remains able to clash evenly with Ichigo even after the latter slashes the arm that he wields his spear with.[2]

Boomerang Tōjū[]

The Boomerang Tōjū is a Tōjū who convinces Hebi to enjoy his freedom instead of hunting him.

Appearance[]

The Boomerang Tōjū takes the form of a well-toned man with a multicolored body: while his lower torso is white, his upper torso is black, and there is an arrow-shaped strip of orange dividing the two along the bottom of his pectorals. He wears slightly baggy white pants held up by a thin black belt, which lengthens into a narrow apron with a white arrow shape in the center at the front, and knee-length black boots. He wears a short black-and-white cape which ends in two long fins and is attached to the flat part of his shoulders, and his shaggy hair is primarily dark blue, but has a crescent-shaped streak of yellow hair arching out past the back of his head toward his back on either side.[3]

Personality[]

The Boomerang Tōjū is very arrogant and brutal in battle, taunting Renji Abarai after catching him off-guard with the nature of his boomerang's attack and mercilessly knocking Hebi aside when the latter gets in his way. He greatly values the newfound freedom he is experiencing as a Tōjū, and is unwilling to go down without a fight in order to defend it. However, he is very manipulative, tricking Hebi into letting him go so he can heal his wounds and take out Saru, Hebi, and Renji one by one. He is willing to take hostages in order to ensure victory, and takes great pleasure in overpowering an opponent who has lain down their weapons. Additionally, he believes one does not need friends or a master around to bow down to, and that solitude is the best kind of freedom.[3]

258Boomerang Toju leaps

Saru attacks the Boomerang Tōjū.

Renji Abarai and Saru confront the Boomerang Tōjū when he appears in the Human World. Though he manages to catch Renji off-guard with his boomerang's path, the Boomerang Tōjū is wounded by a surprise attack from Saru and flees, sending Hebi flying away in the process when the latter gets in his way. Later, the Boomerang Tōjū nurses his injuries in a tree, and is confronted by Hebi, who asks him if he will come willingly. Refusing to do so, the Boomerang Tōjū explains how good freedom is and points out how beings like himself and Hebi rarely experience it. This persuades Hebi to look the other way, allowing the Boomerang Tōjū to escape.[3]

At night, after Hebi gets in an argument with Karin Kurosaki, whom he had been staying with, the Boomerang Tōjū appears before him and mockingly asks him how his newfound freedom is suiting him. The Boomerang Tōjū proceeds to reveal he had tricked Hebi into letting him go so he could heal his injuries and take him, Saru, and Renji down one by one, prompting Hebi to attack him. Though he dodges Hebi's attack and manages to counterattack, the Boomerang Tōjū is quickly overwhelmed by Hebi's creative use of his Shikai and resorts to taking Karin as a hostage in order to make Hebi stop fighting. The Boomerang Tōjū easily overpowers him and mocks him for having friends, which prompts Hebi to explain how having friends is a privilege. As the Boomerang Tōjū attempts to finish Hebi off, Saru and Renji arrive and take over the fight, eventually defeating the Boomerang Tōjū.[3]

Equipment[]

Boomerang: The Boomerang Tōjū wields a large, sharp, golden boomerang. The two blades of the boomerang are hollow, and there is a short protrusion on either tip that runs parallel to the boomerang's shape. The nature of the boomerang allows the Boomerang Tōjū to catch his opponents off-guard with attacks from behind if they dodge the first attack.[3]

Powers & Abilities[]

High Spiritual Power: As a Tōjū, the Boomerang Tōjū possesses a considerable amount of Reiryoku, allowing him to easily overpower and wound Hebi once the latter lays down his weapon.[3]

Enhanced Strength: The Boomerang Tōjū possesses a considerable amount of physical strength. He sent Hebi flying away with a single attack, and knocked Karin Kurosaki unconscious with a single chop to the back of the head.[3]

Enhanced Speed: The Boomerang Tōjū is a very fast combatant. He outran a Shunpo expert like Renji Abarai, who acknowledged his speed, and dodged a close-range attack from Hebi at the last second.[3]

Keen Intellect: The Boomerang Tōjū is a very crafty individual. He successfully manipulated Hebi into letting him go in order to heal his injuries, and planned on taking down Renji, Saru, and Hebi one-by-one because he knew he was no match for them all at once.[3]

Tentacle Tōjū[]

The Tentacle Tōjū is a Tōjū that lives within the Underground Waterway.

Appearance[]

The Tentacle Tōjū takes the form of a large, red, well-toned humanoid figure with several long tentacles in place of legs and white pads where his hips would be. He has two large, outward-pointing blades connected to his flesh on either side of his upper torso, large white fins on either side of his head, razor-sharp teeth, and a human-like face with six yellow eyes, two in his eye sockets and four on his forehead.[4]

Personality[]

The Tentacle Tōjū is very aggressive, attacking a group exploring the Underground Waterway without warning and brutally beating Ikkaku Madarame upon separating him from the others.[4]

The Tentacle Tōjū appears underneath the group.

When Ikkaku Madarame, Hanatarō Yamada, Nanao Ise and Hōzukimaru enter the Underground Waterway in search of a thief who has been stealing supplies from the Seireitei, they eventually get washed into another chamber upon triggering a trap. There, the Tentacle Tōjū appears as a shadow in the water and grabs Ikkaku. Though Hōzukimaru tries to save him, Ikkaku tells him to leave this to him before the Tentacle Tōjū drags him underwater, washing the others way with a large wave in the process. After Hanatarō, Nanao and Hōzukimaru find the thief, who turns out to be Hisagomaru, the Tentacle Tōjū throws a battered Ikkaku through a nearby wall and makes his entrance.[4]

The Tentacle Tōjū confronts the group once more.

Hōzukimaru activates his Bankai, Ryūmon Hōzukimaru, in an attempt to defeat the Tentacle Tōjū, but the spade he throws merely slips off of the Tentacle Tōjū's skin. The Tentacle Tōjū takes advantage of Hōzukimaru's confusion to restrict him with two of his tentacles before blocking a Hadō #31. Shakkahō from Nanao. After throwing Hōzukimaru several meters away, the Tentacle Tōjū grabs Nanao with one of his tentacles as well. However, Hisagomaru notices Ikkaku's wounds and uses Hisagomaru to heal his injuries. Using the power gained from filling the meter on his sword, Hisagomaru unleashes Akeiro Hisagomaru on the Tentacle Tōjū, killing him.[4]

SlipperySkin

The Tentacle Tōjū's Slippery Skin in use.

Slippery Skin: The Tentacle Tōjū's skin is coated in a slippery substance, rendering him immune to attacks with bladed weapons, which will slip off of his skin without harming him.[4]

Enhanced Strength: The Tentacle Tōjū possesses a large amount of physical strength, smashing Ikkaku through a stone wall and picking up and throwing a Bankai-wielding Hōzukimaru with no visible effort.[4]

Enhanced Durability: The Tentacle Tōjū is a considerably durable combatant, emerging unharmed after blocking a Hadō #31. Shakkahō with only the fins on its head.[4]

Tōjū Gang[]

The Tōjū Gang is a group of near-identical Tōjū who wreak havoc in Rukongai.

Appearance[]

The members of the Tōjū gang share similar traits: they are all gray- or normal-skinned men wearing blue-gray kimono with their chests bared. However, some of them have individual appearance traits: the fabric they use to tie their kimono around their waists varies between members, and some have topknots while others are bald, while they all wield different weapons.[5]

Personality[]

The members of the Tōjū Gang are very aggressive, mercilessly destroying towns and attacking everyone they find. They have a habit of grinning in battle, and have no respect for the Zanpakutō spirits on the side of the Gotei 13, whom they consider "dogs of the Shinigami". Additionally, they have no qualms with performing surprise attacks and attacking someone who cannot defend themselves.[5]

260Hisagi cuts

Hisagi attacks a member of the Tōjū Gang.

Ikkaku Madarame, Tetsuzaemon Iba, Izuru Kira, and Shūhei Hisagi are dispatched to deal with the Tōjū Gang after they begin causing destruction in Rukongai, but they arrive too late, with the Tōjū Gang having already destroyed another village and moved on. Hisagi encounters one of the Tōjū attacking a group of Rukongai denizens and manages to wound him before being attacked by Kazeshini. Soon afterward, Kazeshini encounters the same Tōjū cutting down a Rukongai denizen, and kills this Tōjū himself after the Tōjū demands to know if he is working for the Shinigami. Later, the Shinigami take on five more of these Tōjū in the streets of Rukongai, where the members of the Tōjū Gang proves to be difficult opponents due to their nature of running away and attacking from buildings.[5]

260Kazeshini stabs

Kazeshini kills the last member of the Tōjū Gang.

When Kazeshini goes to check on a baby whom he has been caring for, he finds a woman soothing the baby instead. However, as Kazeshini begins to ask a favor of her with the baby at his knees, another member of the Tōjū Gang comes up from behind and attacks him, forcing Kazeshini to block his blade with his forearm in order to protect the baby. When forced back, the Tōjū attacks again, leaving a deep wound on Kazeshini's back in the process. He sidesteps a kusarigama from Kazeshini and prepares to attack again, but Kazeshini pulls the kusarigama into the Tōjū's back and stabs him with the point of his other kusarigama, causing the Tōjū to fall and revert to his sealed sword form.[5]

Equipment[]

Sword: One of the members of the Tōjū Gang wields a sword of average length. The guard and the end of the handle are large and angular, and the blade has two square-shaped protrusions rising from its back edge.[5]

Trident: One of the members of the Tōjū Gang wields a trident with a black hilt and gray prongs.[5]

Katana: Each of the other members of the Tōjū Gang wields a standard katana with a green handle.[5]

Powers & Abilities[]

High Spiritual Power: As Tōjū, the members of the Tōjū Gang possess a considerable amount of Reiryoku, allowing them to fight somewhat evenly against and wound lieutenant-level Shinigami and Zanpakutō spirits like Ikkaku Madarame, Izuru Kira, Tetsuzaemon Iba, Shūhei Hisagi, and Kazeshini.[5]

Mouthless Tōjū[]

The Mouthless Tōjū is a Tōjū who manages to merge her body with that of a Human, Kyōko Haida.

Appearance[]

The Mouthless Tōjū takes the form of a gray-skinned woman with completely yellow eyes, which have tiny, slit-shaped black pupils, and no mouth. She has long, dark green hair reaching her lower back and covering her face with several bangs. She wears a ragged-sleeved beige kimono which is held up with a strip of red fabric hemmed with white frills and tied with thin golden twine. She can extend three claws from within each sleeve in order to engage in combat, and she has a long, thick black tail with a white underbelly instead of legs.[6]

Personality[]

The Mouthless Tōjū is initially distraught over what she perceives as her master abandoning her. However, she later becomes bitter and cynical about friendship and allies because of this, and claims she gave Kyōko Haida her power because they have both been abandoned by everyone and were thus drawn to each other. She acts as a negative influence on Kyōko, assuring her that no one really wants to be her friend and encouraging her to kill Mai Suzuki, and takes over her body when Kyōko refuses to comply. However, the Mouthless Tōjū was secretly trying to synchronize Kyōko's heart with her own in order to manifest her body into the real world, and in reality regards her as nothing more than a tool. She is very selfish, refusing to let Kyōko go unless Orihime Inoue becomes her host instead, and plans to absorb everything and everyone she can find in order to prove her power. She harbors great resentment towards her master, claiming she was left to die because he discarded her and died without her at his side.[6]

The Mouthless Tōjū communicates with Kyōko.

While sobbing alone in the darkness, the Mouthless Tōjū is engulfed by a bright light and encounters Kyōko Haida, whom she convinces to let her emotions out and merge with the Mouthless Tōjū due to Kyōko having been abandoned by Mai Suzuki. Soon afterward, the Mouthless Tōjū possesses Kyōko and has her attack two young girls who are carrying a certain pink bear charm, which Kyōko had tried to give to Mai as a present. After Orihime Inoue offers to be Kyōko's friend, the Mouthless Tōjū communicates with Kyōko and reminds her of how they have both been abandoned by everyone, but when Kyōko refuses to kill Mai, the Mouthless Tōjū possesses her once more and claims she will be the instrument of Kyōko's revenge.[6]

The Mouthless Tōjū clashes with Ichigo.

At dusk, the Mouthless Tōjū attacks Mai with Kyōko's body, but Kyōko manages to regain control of her body and tries to reason with Mai. However, the Mouthless Tōjū manages to frighten Mai into unconsciousness by making Kyōko's possessed face appear in front of her real one. Believing no one will ever accept her, Kyōko allows her heart to synchronize with the Mouthless Tōjū's, causing the latter to manifest her body into the real world. When the Mouthless Tōjū attacks Orihime, Ichigo Kurosaki arrives and engages in combat with her. Eventually, Orihime deduces Kyōko is still fighting within the Mouthless Tōjū's body and uses Sōten Kisshun to separate the two, allowing Ichigo to finish the Mouthless Tōjū off with a Getsuga Tenshō.[6]

Possession: The Mouthless Tōjū can possess Humans and lend them her power by allowing them to touch her sword form. While within a Human's body, she can mentally communicate with them, indicated by the world around the host losing color and becoming covered in darkness. She can forcibly take over and control her host's body at any time, marked by the host's eyes turning yellow, and can switch between hosts if she needs to. Additionally, should her host's heart perfectly synchronize with her own, the Mouthless Tōjū can manifest her own body into the real world, completely subjugating her host's body and soul in the process. However, the host can fight back and regain control if they possess enough willpower, and forcible separation from her host leaves the Mouthless Tōjū weakened.[6]

The Hammer Tōjū is a Tōjū who briefly wreaks havoc in the Seireitei.

Appearance[]

The Hammer Tōjū takes the form of a large, very muscular man with purple-gray skin. He has a flat nose and very small pupils, and wears a purple skullcap, which is composed of several hexagons, and ragged brown gloves. His upper body is bare except for a brown shawl around his neck and shoulders, and he wears long, green-gray pants. He is barefoot.[7]

Personality[]

The Hammer Tōjū is aggressive and easy to anger, furiously attacking Hebi when the latter mocks him missing the first time and burying Saru and Hebi up to their shoulders in the ground upon regaining consciousness. He takes great joy in overpowering his opponents in battle, laughing while attacking several unseated Shinigami after incapacitating Saru and Hebi. However, he can be somewhat crafty, hiding in a pot to avoid his Shinigami pursuers.[7]

The Hammer Tōjū fights Saru and Hebi.

While hiding in a pot to avoid his Shinigami pursuers, the Hammer Tōjū is confronted by Saru, who attacks him with Zabimaru. When the Hammer Tōjū deflects her attack, Hebi pops up behind him with Zabimaru in his hand, prompting the Hammer Tōjū to angrily attack him several times, only to miss each time. When Hebi finally blocks the Hammer Tōjū's attack, Saru kicks him in the face, momentarily knocking him unconscious. However, the Hammer Tōjū wakes up and buries Saru and Hebi in a mound of dirt before proceeding to attack the nearby Shinigami. Eventually, the Hammer Tōjū prepares to deliver the finishing blow to Saru and Hebi, but Senbonzakura appears and defeats him with Senbonzakura. The Hammer Tōjū reverts to his sealed sword form, which snaps in two and is later taken to the Shinigami Research and Development Institute.[7]

The Bearded Tōjū is a Tōjū who briefly wreaks havoc in the Seireitei.

Appearance[]

The Bearded Tōjū takes the form of a well-toned man with small black eyes and thin, dark purple eyebrows. He has a teardrop-shaped portion of a dark purple mustache above either corner of his mouth, and he has a dark purple chinstrap beard, which has a strip of hair extending from his lower lip to his chin and a long, thick, curling strand extending to his pectorals on either side of his chin. His dark purple hair fans out in opposite directions at the top and curls outward near his neck, and his bangs are cut evenly across his forehead. He wears a piece of white armor that covers his shoulders, pectorals, and upper back over a light purple, form-fitting shirt with striped sleeves; striped, baggy, light purple pants which are maroon on the inside; and maroon, knee-high boots.[8]

Personality[]

The Bearded Tōjū is somewhat cowardly, running away from his first encounter with the masked girl and wounding Nanao Ise with a surprise attack. He holds a grudge toward the masked girl for torturing him during their first encounter, and is likewise grateful toward Nanao for providing an opportunity for him to escape. He can be very cruel in combat, intentionally preventing the masked girl from using her wakizashi in order to completely overpower her. However, he does have a sense of honor, as he was planning on letting Nanao live because she allowed him to escape during their first encounter, though he decides to kill her after Nanao attacks him. Additionally, he believes in the idea of retribution, having planned to put the masked girl through the same pain and torture which she put him through, and can be very sarcastic and condescending.[8]

The masked girl toys with the Bearded Tōjū.

While in the Seireitei, the Bearded Tōjū is attacked and quickly overwhelmed by the masked girl, who toys with him and prolongs his suffering instead of finishing him off despite the Bearded Tōjū asking her to do so. Eventually, Nanao Ise confronts the masked girl over her actions, and prevents her from attacking the Bearded Tōjū again by cutting off her path with Hadō #4. Byakurai. However, this gives the Bearded Tōjū the opportunity to escape. Later, after Nanao and the masked girl have resolved their differences and are looking at a peach blossom tree together, the Bearded Tōjū slashes Nanao's elbow from behind and appears before her and the masked girl.[8]

Shunsui defeats the Bearded Tōjū after rescuing the masked girl.

The Bearded Tōjū explains his intentions to kill both of them, prompting the masked girl to attempt to grab her wakizashi, which is lying several feet away. However, the Bearded Tōjū prevents her from doing so, and begins attacking her several times in rapid succession, though the masked girl manages to dodge his attacks. When one of his attacks destroys the peach blossom in the masked girl's hair, the Bearded Tōjū incapacitates her with a single attack and prepares to inflict further harm upon her, only for Nanao to hit him in the back with Hadō #31. Shakkahō. When the Bearded Tōjū attempts to attack Nanao, the masked girl immobilizes his right arm, only for the Bearded Tōjū to punch her into a wall and attack Nanao. However, Shunsui Kyōraku appears and blocks his attack, and when the Bearded Tōjū attempts to take the masked girl hostage, Shunsui rescues the masked girl and cuts the Bearded Tōjū down with a single attack.[8]

He managed to quickly move in front of the masked girl in order to prevent her from reaching her wakizashi, and kept her completely on the defensive with his swift attacks. When Shunsui Kyōraku appeared, the Bearded Tōjū moved to the masked girl almost instantly in order to take her as a hostage.[8]

Enhanced Durability: The Bearded Tōjū is a fairly durable combatant, withstanding a Hadō #31. Shakkahō to the back without sustaining any injuries.[8]

Cleaver Tōjū[]

The Cleaver Tōjū is a Tōjū whose death proves the existence of Kirikaze.

Appearance[]

The Cleaver Tōjū takes the form of a well-toned man with shaggy, light maroon hair and completely yellow eyes. He wears a strip of black fabric wrapped around his head at eye level, and his upper body is entirely bare with the exception of bicep-length, dark blue gloves on his arms. He wears blue pants with a thick orange waist, and wears black shoes. He has a large brown belt with a silver belt buckle wrapped diagonally around his torso from his left shoulder.[9]

Personality[]

The Cleaver Tōjū is somewhat aggressive and easy to anger, attacking his Shinigami pursuers on sight and angrily cursing Kazeshini when the latter easily overwhelms him.[9]

Kazeshini relentlessly attacks the Cleaver Tōjū.

While being pursued by several unseated Shinigami, the Cleaver Tōjū bursts out of a window and land in the street below, where he attacks his pursuers upon encountering them. When more Shinigami arrive, the Cleaver Tōjū throws another cleaver at them, only for Kazeshini to deflect it with his kusarigama and compliment the Cleaver Tōjū's weapons before engaging him in combat. As Kazeshini attacks him multiple times in rapid succession, the Cleaver Tōjū can only dodge and move back until they reach another corridor. Cursing Kazeshini, the Cleaver Tōjū begins to choke and suddenly bursts into flames without having been dealt the finishing blow before reverting to his sealed sword form. From this, Kazeshini and the other Zanpakutō deduce Kirikaze has finally appeared.[9]

Cleavers: The Cleaver Tōjū carries a set of three cleavers on the belt around his torso. He can throw these cleavers at his enemies for mid-range attacks, and he can control their path to make them return to him once thrown.[9]

The Yōkai Tōjū takes the form of a small, humanoid creature with purple-gray skin and a somewhat elongated neck with three gill-like markings on the front. It has completely yellow eyes with small black pupils, pointed ears, and a short red mohawk running from the top to the back of its head. It has three yellow, equally-spaced orbs in its torso, three gill-like markings on either side of its abdomen, and somewhat short and stubby legs.[9]

Kirikaze chases the Yōkai Tōjū down an alleyway at night. When the Yōkai Tōjū stumbles and falls, Kirikaze turns into mist and surrounds the Yōkai Tōjū, who screams as it glows orange before bursting into flames. Afterwards, its sealed sword form clatters on the ground as Kirikaze reforms and grows larger.[9]

Lion Tōjū[]

He has a purple stripe resembling two angled hooks covering his pectorals, and his shoulders have purple rings circling them. He has strips of white cloth wrapped around his forearms, and his legs are covered in white fur. He has a white tail with a noticeably furry tip, and he wears black shoes.[9]

The Lion Tōjū, Face Tōjū, and Ape Tōjū run away from Kirikaze through the streets of Rukongai. Noticing the Lion Tōjū, Kirikaze walks after him before sending him flying away with a single slash of his sword. As he lands, the Lion Tōjū glows orange and bursts into flames.[9]
