Isshin Kurosaki reveals that he is a Shinigami and fights Grand Fisher.
Summary[]
With the top half of The Menos Grande flailing in anger and pain in the air behind Uryū Ishida, Ryūken Ishida tells the former to shut up and fires a Heilig Pfeil from his Heilig Bogen that completely obliterates its head and upper shoulders, leaving the rest to fall to the ground and begin disintegrating as Ryūken observes he does not need to worry about The Menos Grande's High-Speed Regeneration if he kills it before it can use the technique.
Astonished by this, Uryū demands to know why Ryūken has Quincy powers and recalls the latter claiming that he hates the Quincy because they are not profitable, but when Uryū asserts that he believed Ryūken had discarded his powers long ago due to his hatred of the Quincy, Ryūken simply counters that this is why he insulted Uryū's intelligence and reminds Uryū he specifically said that he had no interest in being a Quincy and that Uryū had no talent in being a Quincy, leaving Uryū shocked and speechless as he realizes this.
Lamenting that his powers will not disappear as easily as Uryū's did, Ryūken concludes that he is the successor to all the powers and skills of Sōken Ishida whether he likes it or not and consequently the only person who can be officially designated the Last Quincy while taking his Quincy Cross out of his suit's inner pocket to show Uryū. In the past, a young Uryū hits a bullseye on a target board with a Heilig Pfeil and excitedly informs Sōken, who nods affirmingly at him in turn. When Uryū declares that he wants to become a Quincy just like him, Sōken acknowledges this and warns Uryū that doing so is no easy matter while wearing his Quincy Cross around his neck.
In the present, Uryū recognizes Ryūken's five-pointed Quincy Cross as being the same one Sōken once used before the bottom half of The Menos Grande falls through the air behind him and attempts to devour Uryū, only for Ryūken to fire another Heilig Pfeil between its eyes that sends the bottom half flying back into the air and causes it to explode. As a stunned Uryū observes Ryūken killed the bottom half of The Menos Grande in a single strike while he could only scratch it, Ryūken admonishes him for being inexperienced enough to lose his fledgling power in Soul Society and ultimately accomplish nothing in the process solely because he was compelled by his pride.
However, Ryūken reveals that he can restore Uryū's lost power, and when Uryū expresses disbelief at this, Ryūken promises him that it is the truth prior to ordering Uryū to swear that he will not involve himself with Shinigami from now on as the one condition for this, leaving Uryū surprised. Meanwhile, Kon frantically runs through the streets of Karakura Town in Ichigo Kurosaki's body from Grand Fisher, who punches the ground where he was located just after Kon runs over it. After jumping to the top of a tall office building, Kon continues running as Grand Fisher embeds his fist in the corner of the rooftop and turns around with his arms crossed defensively.
Despite Kon pleading with him to not fight in the middle of Karakura Town, Grand Fisher simply wonders why Ichigo is running away from him and pursues Kon into the air by crashing through the roof of a nearby building while demanding that Ichigo return to his Shinigami form. With Kon tearfully questioning why this always happens to him, Ririn, Kurōdo, and Noba clamber onto a rooftop multiple blocks away and are shocked to see Kon fleeing from Grand Fisher, who destroys part of a building with a single punch. Assuming that Grand Fisher is a massive Hollow, the three Mod-Souls are left perplexed by Kon being in Ichigo's body as he lands on the ladder of a water tower.
When Kon informs Grand Fisher that he is not Ichigo, Grand Fisher assumes Kon is trying to deceive him and angrily throws a punch that punctures the water tower following a frightened Kon letting go of the ladder and screaming as he falls to the street far below. Suddenly, with Grand Fisher following him downward, Kon finds himself suspended in a black void and inquires if he has been eaten, only for Ririn to berate him for sleep-talking while he is awake as Noba, having returned to his Gigai alongside Ririn and Kurōdo, teleports Kon to them on an outdoor stairway, where Ririn questions why Kon is running around in Ichigo's body like this.
Though Kon points out that a gigantic Hollow is following him around, Ririn calls him pathetic for doing so when he is a Modified Soul, and when Kon asserts Grand Fisher is not a normal Hollow, Ririn smugly confirms he is fast enough to keep up with Kon running away. Upon being called annoying by an enraged Kon, Ririn pretends to see Grand Fisher nearby, causing Kon to shriek and cower on the ground before bolting up in irritation when Ririn reveals she was lying. Still smirking at Kon, Ririn decides they will help him if he is in trouble and turns to Kurōdo, who muses that chance meetings are the result of karma and those who are kind to others will be rewarded.
Initially refusing to accept help from Ririn, Kurōdo, and Noba, Kon is alerted by Grand Fisher searching for Ichigo on the street above them and seeing Kon on the stairway, causing the four of them to begin running away while Kon observes that this is no different from what he was doing before. However, Ririn proclaims that this is just the beginning, and with Grand Fisher pursuing them down the street, Ririn has the group turn right onto another street and modifies the area with her Illusions, causing Grand Fisher to stop in shock when he turns around the corner and finds himself staring at a moonlit desert prior to turning and seeing Kurōdo disguised as Ichigo on a rock.
Believing this to be the real Ichigo who has finally entered his Shinigami form, Grand Fisher vows to take Ichigo's life and grips his Zanpakutō while Kurōdo readies his copy of Ichigo's Shikai, Zangetsu, and welcomes the challenge. Nearby, Kon hides behind another rock with Ririn and Noba, whom he asks about Kurōdo's safety. After assuring Kon that they can handle one or two Hollows, Ririn runs off with Noba as Kurōdo leaps forward and slashes down at Grand Fisher, who partially unsheathes his Zanpakutō to block the strike and pushes Kurōdo back by slashing it through the air. When Kurōdo lands back on the rock nearby, Grand Fisher slices through it vertically.
As Kurōdo jumps off the crumbling half of the rock he was standing on once Grand Fisher's Zanpakutō horizontally severs the top portion of it, Grand Fisher slams his free hand into Kurōdo and moves to smash him into another rock, but Noba teleports him away to a rock behind Grand Fisher at the last second, leaving Grand Fisher to look back at them in confusion. Thanking Noba for saving him, a yelling Kurōdo leaps into the air to attack Grand Fisher once more, only for the latter to extend his hair tendrils and wrap them around Kurōdo before swinging him around and sending him flying into Ririn and Noba, where Kurōdo returns to his normal form upon hitting the ground.
With the desert fading to reveal the Karakura Town street around them, a bemused Grand Fisher realizes the Mod-Souls tricked him, and upon seeing Kon running away down another street, Grand Fisher continues to presume he is Ichigo and resumes his pursuit as he wonders if the latter believes he can escape, leaving Ririn to express concern for Kon. Grand Fisher slams down into the road behind Kon, who jumps high into the air and recalls Grand Fisher refusing to believe he is not Ichigo even when informed of this. When Grand Fisher follows him into the air, Kon looks back and notices he can see Grand Fisher's face because the latter's mask is partially removed.
Suddenly, Grand Fisher grabs Kon and asserts he has grown impatient with running around and waiting for Ichigo to enter his Shinigami form prior to slamming Kon into the ground below and accepting this is not going to happen. While Ririn, Kurōdo, and Noba run up behind him in fright, Grand Fisher promises to turn Ichigo's bones to dust while he is in his Human body and raises his right hand above Kon, who mentally notes he can no longer move his legs from Grand Fisher gripping him so hard previously. However, before Grand Fisher can smash his hand down onto Kon, a white Kidō barrier forms around Kon from the protective charm on Ichigo's shirt.
Walking up from behind Kon, Isshin Kurosaki states that this is why he told Ichigo to wear the charm at all times, and with Ririn expressing astonishment at his appearance, Isshin approaches Grand Fisher while wearing a Shinigami shihakushō with a Zanpakutō on his hip and requests that the latter play with him instead since Ichigo is currently busy. As Grand Fisher demands to know who he is and the barrier created by the protective charm fades, which causes it to fall to the ground, Isshin apologizes and introduces himself. Elsewhere, Ichigo and Shinji Hirako are startled by the intensity of the Reiatsu they are sensing, with Ichigo assuming one is a Hollow's.
Despite being unimpressed by Ichigo only just detecting Grand Fisher's Reiatsu, Shinji mentally admits he does not recognize the Reiatsu of the Shinigami who just appeared, but is startled when Ichigo leaps away from their confrontation. Though Shinji protests that he was not done talking to Ichigo yet, Ichigo counters that he is passing on this, to Shinji's further irritation, and declares he is not planning on joining the Visored no matter what kind of organization it is. After concluding he is a Shinigami and not one of them, Ichigo turns around and departs, leaving Shinji to express exasperation at how difficult he is prior to pulling out a cellphone and dialing a number on it.
Shinji calls Hiyori Sarugaki, whom he apologizes to for failing to convince Ichigo. With Hiyori screaming at him so loudly that the transmission comes out as garbled static, Shinji holds the phone away from his ear and assures her they simply need to be patient since it is only a matter of time. Back in the street, Grand Fisher picks up on Isshin's last name being Kurosaki, which prompts Isshin to confirm he is Ichigo's father as he picks up the charm and tosses it to Kon. Addressing the latter by name, Isshin notes he intended Kon to have the charm to begin with, leaving Kon startled by Isshin knowing his name and wondering when Isshin realized he was not Ichigo.
In response, Isshin reveals that he has known ever since he first saw Kon in Ichigo's body on the day that they visited Masaki Kurosaki's grave and reminds Kon that he has never once called him Ichigo while the latter was inhabiting Ichigo's body. After claiming that he is perceptive despite his looks, Isshin calls out Ririn, Kurōdo, and Noba, who stand up behind a nearby row of bushes as Ririn deduces that he has known about them from the start as well, Kurōdo comments on this being an awkward first meeting, and Noba merely zips his hood shut. Suddenly, Grand Fisher slams his fist into the ground and observes that Isshin being a Shinigami means that Ichigo is a true blood.
While admitting that he now understands why he was defeated by Ichigo, Grand Fisher recalls his loss and asserts that he has no interest in Isshin because he came here to kill Ichigo. Though Grand Fisher claims that he must know where Ichigo is due to being the latter's father and demands that he bring Ichigo here, Isshin nonchalantly counters that Ichigo is no longer a child and that he has always been relaxed with his children, though Kon interjects that he is strict with the girls, leading a flustered Isshin to claim that this is a different thing since Karin Kurosaki and Yuzu Kurosaki are a special case due to being extremely different from Ichigo in his eyes.
Turning back to Grand Fisher, Isshin claims he has come to kill the former regardless of his interest in Ichigo and it would be a problem if Grand Fisher did not fight him. Amused to the point of maniacal laughter by this, Grand Fisher proclaims this is brazen for a Shinigami to say and inquires if Isshin thinks he is a normal Hollow before growing drastically in size, shattering the top half of his mask in the process, to assume a more bestial appearance, which he calls the true form of his power. When a frightened Kon compares his size to that of the Menos Grande he saw before, Grand Fisher is displeased by being compared to them and begins to identify what he is.
Suddenly, Isshin interjects and calls Grand Fisher an Arrancar, part of a group of Hollows seeking to attain Shinigami powers by removing their masks. After expressing surprised at Isshin's knowledge of them, Grand Fisher draws his enlarged Zanpakutō and declares that Isshin must know he cannot win against it, leaving Kon astonished by its size as Grand Fisher details how a Zanpakutō's size is proportional to its owner's Reiatsu and concludes that Isshin's normal-sized Zanpakutō cannot defeat his own. In response, Isshin simply grins and challenges Grand Fisher to go through with this while shifting his stance and grasping the handle of his sheathed Zanpakutō on his waist.
An unimpressed Grand Fisher assumes that Isshin lacks any understanding of Shinigami despite knowing the situation and proclaims that his death will give him understanding prior to rushing forward with a roar as Isshin leaps forward, draws his Zanpakutō, and slashes horizontally through Grand Fisher's stab. In the aftermath, a stunned Grand Fisher states that this is impossible as Isshin stands near the former's embedded Zanpakutō, sheathes his own, and explains that captain-class Shinigami consciously control the size of their Zanpakutō to avoid swinging swords the size of buildings like Grand Fisher is. With Grand Fisher being cut horizontally along his chest and falling over dead, Isshin concludes that an opponent's strength cannot be judged by the size of their Zanpakutō and warns Grand Fisher to not talk to him about Shinigami until he understands this.

As he sits around a heater with 2nd Division Lieutenant Marechiyo Ōmaeda and 7th Division Lieutenant Tetsuzaemon Iba, 1st Division Lieutenant Chōjirō Sasakibe inquires about how they have been doing lately, prompting Iba to dejectedly note that no one has noticed how he changed his sunglasses recently. In response, Marechiyo calls this dull and brings their attention to the fact that he is now wearing his sideburns in a different style, though Chōjirō admits that it is hard to notice a difference. Suddenly, 11th Division Lieutenant Yachiru Kusajishi lands nearby and cheerfully calls the three of them dull lieutenants, to their exasperation.
