Shinobu Eishima (衛島 忍, Eishima Shinobu) was the 4th seat of the 9th Division in the Gotei 13 and served under his Captain Kensei Muguruma.

Appearance
Eishima is a long-haired Shinigami. He bears a strong resemblance to Jūshirō Ukitake, but with hair that is dark red brown. His bangs curves more to the side while Ukitake's bangs are only slightly curved to the side, Eishima also doesn't have a piece of his bang that hangs over his right eye unlike Ukitake who does. He dresses like the other former members of the 9th Division with the standard Shinigami uniform and a white jacket that he wears over his shinigami uniform with a collar that reaches up to his neck.
Personality
Unlike the more cheerful Captain Ukitake, Eishima appears more calm, quiet, and serious. Along with the other members of the group, Eishima tries to keep the captain's anger under control by restraining him from trying to kill Mashiro. He did not seem to be as annoyed by the Lieutenant's antics, unlike his former captain Kensei Muguruma.
History
Turn Back the Pendulum Arc
Eishima was first introduced in chapter 104 where Kensei Muguruma and the other highly seated officers of the Ninth Division (including Kaname Tōsen) are sent to investigate the missing villagers of the Rukongai. They stumble upon a young Shūhei Hisagi and try to save him and his friends from a large hollow. Kensei unleashes his Shikai and easily dispatches the creature.
Their lieutenant, Mashiro Kuna, finds Shinigami uniforms in the bushes. Kensei realizes that the total number, 10, is the same as how many of the Ninth Division officers were sent out beforehand. With that in mind, Shinobu, along with Heizō guarded their captain's tent while he slept. Upon Todo's return, all three of them are surprised when Kaname attacks and kills them.
