Shinigami and Quincy, the Battle of Madness is the one hundred and sixty-third episode of the Bleach anime.
While Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez interrupts Loly Aivirrne and Menoly Mallia's torment of Orihime Inoue, Uryū Ishida joins 6th Division Lieutenant Renji Abarai's battle against Szayelaporro Granz.
Summary[]
In her chamber in Las Noches, Orihime Inoue frantically runs toward the door, but is knocked back screaming by a Bala that hits it, creating a sizable explosion in the process. With the door knocked off its hinges by this, Loly Aivirrne sarcastically apologizes and claims that she tried to open the door for Orihime since the latter looked like she wanted to go outside, only to observe that she used too much force in the process as she stands next to a smirking Menoly Mallia.
As Orihime stares at her in fright, Loly accuses her of having something to say and assures Orihime that she can say it because they will listen to her, prompting Orihime to request that they leave if they have no business here. Offended by this alongside Menoly, Loly walks over to Orihime and kneels down in front of her to demands to know who she thinks she is. At Loly's prompting, Menoly generates a Cero around her left fist while Loly informs Orihime that Menoly's Cero has been acting up and releasing without her even noticing lately, which means that Orihime might be hit by it by mistake if she is not careful.
Once Loly warns her that the Cero would actually kill her unlike the Bala and tells her to say something, Orihime asserts that she is here to serve Sōsuke Aizen and his desires, which leads an angered Loly to grab her by the chin and rebuke Orihime for talking about Aizen like this just because he spoke to her personally. Upon seeing Orihime looking at her understandingly, Loly grabs her by the collar with both hands to pull her to her feet, and when Orihime asks her to stop and pries her hands off, a further enraged Loly punches Orihime in the face, sending her flying back and crashing against the side of the couch.
After walking over to Orihime and pulling her head back by her hair, Loly calls her pathetic for thinking she could best an Arrancar with Human strength. However, Orihime continues staring at her silently, causing a furious Loly to promise to make her unable to go before Aizen ever again. When Menoly cautions her to leave it at that since they do not want to go too far, Loly tells Menoly to shut up and claims that she does not have to do this if she does not want to. Suddenly, as Menoly continues to protest Loly's behavior, a powerful surge of Reiatsu blows a hole in the wall next to the empty doorway behind her.
Approaching a frightened Loly and Menoly, Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez infers that they snuck in here while Ulquiorra Cifer was away and questions if they are having fun. In response to Loly questioning how he got in, Grimmjow simply states that he did so through the wall because someone had already broken off the door and he saw no reason not to do it this way. Upon striding past a stunned Menoly toward Orihime, Grimmjow holds out his right hand, tells Loly to get out of the way, and violently backhands her across the room, leading him to wonder if he used too much force while Loly coughs and gasps for breath on the floor.
In response, an angered Menoly attempts to attack Grimmjow with a Cero formed in her hand, but Grimmjow simply grabs her hand, remaining unharmed by the Cero against his palm, and charges his own Cero against it that obliterates the top half of a screaming Menoly, which Orihime watches in shock as Grimmjow admonishes Menoly for not being careful about her Cero usage. With Loly warning him that Aizen will punish him for this, Grimmjow turns his attention back to her and rapidly terrifies Loly by walking over to her, only to simply shout at her without doing anything before kicking a humiliated Loly in the face when she prays for Aizen to kill him.
Grimmjow asserts that Aizen does not care what he does to them and turns to Orihime, who wonders why he did this. In turn, Grimmjow asserts that he did so for his left arm and grabs a confused Orihime by the collar to hold her aloft and clarify that he came here to repay his debt to her rather than simply help her, which is why there is something she is going to do for him now that they are even. Meanwhile, in Szayelaporro Granz's palace, his Fracción bemoan Medazeppi's death and turn their ire toward Uryū Ishida, who stands in a hole in the wall above them and observes that there are a lot of them even though they do not seem very tough.
Hiding behind a pillar near Uryū, Pesche Guatiche asks him if he scared the Arrancar to the point of shaking, though an annoyed Uryū simply tells him to continue hiding so he does not ruin the moment, with an offended Pesche denying that he ever acts without a sense of tension, and looks at Szayelaporro, who smirks back at him from behind his Fracción before yelling at them to be quiet so their guest can say what he wants to say. Uryū thanks Szayelaporro for this, prompting Szayelaporro to bow, and apologizes for his bluntness in confirming this before inquiring if Szayelaporro is an Espada, which leads Szayelaporro to clap and identify himself as Espada #8.
Though Uryū admits that this does not sound too scary, Szayelaporro warns him to not be fooled since he is still stronger than Uryū is and wonders who the latter is, and when Uryū introduces himself as a Quincy, an elated Szayelaporro realizes he is the one who fought Cirucci Sanderwicci, whom he casually disparages as idiotic, and celebrates encountering both a Quincy and a Bankai user at once. However, as Szayelaporro proclaims that Yammy Llargo would be howling with joy and calling this lucky, Uryū leaps into the air, lands behind a startled Szayelaporro, and states that he does not know who this Yammy is.
Declaring that having someone with as many openings as Szayelaporro in his sights makes him feel lucky too, Uryū fires a Seele Schneider from his Heilig Bogen, Ginrei Kojaku, directly at a stunned Szayelaporro, who is pierced directly through his stomach by the blade and falls to his knees as his Fracción call out to him in concern and 6th Division Lieutenant Renji Abarai looks on in surprise. Suddenly, the blade of the Seele Schneider dissipates in a burst of energy, to Uryū's shock, and a maniacally laughing Szayelaporro calls him foolish for believing his arrow could pierce Szayelaporro.
After bringing up his knowledge of Uryū's battle against Cirucci Sanderwicci, Szayelaporro reveals that he has already analyzed the latter's abilities. Meanwhile, in Orihime's chamber, Menoly wakes up on the floor and wonders how she is alive after being blasted point-blank by Grimmjow's Cero, prompting Loly to inform her that Orihime did it as she huddles against the wall with her head in her arms. In the past, Grimmjow sets Orihime down and tells her to heal her face, but after touching her scuffed cheek and annoying Grimmjow with her lack of action enough to make him repeated himself, Orihime instead runs over to a bruised and bleeding Loly.
Orihime kneels by Loly's side to examine her injuries, and despite a bewildered Loly backhanding her in an attempt to make her leave, Orihime forms Sōten Kisshun over her entire body without reacting and slowly heals Loly's wounds, causing her to stare in astonishment. Once Loly is healed, Orihime walks over to Menoly's corpse to begin reconstituting her upper body with Sōten Kisshun as well, leaving Loly to watch her in confusion and horror as she expresses disbelief of what she is seeing. Sweating in fear, Loly questions what this is and what Orihime is prior to mentally claiming that the latter is a monster.
Back in Szayelaporro's palace, Uryū evades a downward fist slam from a large Arrancar by leaping back and fires three Heilig Pfeil at him, only for the projectiles to impact the Arrancar's back without significantly damaging it, leading a surprised Uryū to realize that his Heilig Pfeil are weaker now. When the Arrancar comes down on him for a ground pound, Uryū jumps into the air behind it and prepares to attack, but has his attention drawn to another Arrancar lunging toward him and fires several more Heilig Pfeil at it that send the Arrancar crashing back down to the floor below, though still able to stand once he land on his feet.
Upon seeing this, Uryū remembers his Seele Schneider deactivating without injuring Szayelaporro and curses while he begins running along the length of the chamber and firing more Heilig Pfeil, which impact the far wall with great force when the Arrancar dodges them and eventually blow apart a third Arrancar upon hitting him. In turn, Szayelaporro notes that he needs to adjust this a bit and does so with his hand. Meanwhile, Pesche watches Uryū battling below and questions why he is taking so long to defeat the Arrancar with his Heilig Pfeil, but is interrupted when a large Arrancar suddenly drops down onto Uryū.
With Pesche frantically calling out to him, Uryū looks up and leaps out of the way just in time to avoid the Arrancar slamming into the ground where he was standing, prompting an alerted Szayelaporro to look at the hole that Pesche is now hiding behind as the latter observes that this was close. Uryū leaps up to evade a punch from a large Arrancar whose fist unfurls into several tendrils that stab into the ground where Uryū was standing, and when Uryū fires a Heilig Pfeil at its head, Szayelaporro tells him to not bother while the projectile disintegrates in front of the Arrancar's face, with Ginrei Kojaku following suit shortly afterward.
Before the Arrancar can punch a defenseless Uryū, Renji appears in front of Uryū and catches the Arrancar's fist with his Shikai, Zabimaru, as he tells Uryū to figure out a way to overcome Szayelaporro's tricks and defeat instead of just standing there since discovering weaknesses is his specialty. While Uryū assures him that he will, a grinning Renji forces the Arrancar back and instructs Uryū to not mess up since he is counting on the latter, which leads Uryū to assert that Renji does not need to worry about him and should focus on not messing up instead while a smiling Szayelaporro watches them.

Having envisioned a large, muscular, and furred monster, a frightened Kiyone wonders how they will ever capture such a thing, and when Suì-Fēng warns her that Yoruichi might kill her if grabbed by her tail, Kiyone envisions a rat-like monster and becomes terrified.
