Seireitei

The Seireitei

Seireitei (瀞霊廷, court of pure souls) is in the center of Soul Society. It is a circular shiro with four main entrances, ten days walk apart,[1], each guarded by a Gate Guardian. These gates are called the Black Ridge Gate (in the North), the Blue Stream Gate (in the East), the Red Hollow Gate (in the South) and the White Way Gate (in the West)[2][3]. The gates are so heavy that it takes the full might of Jidanbō Ikkanzaka to lift one, while during the Bount-led attack on Seireitei, siege machines where needed to open the gates. There are, however, doors within the gates, as seen when Momo Hinamori first entered the Shinigami Academy[4].

The walls of Seireitei are made of Sekkiseki (殺気石, spirit reducing stone), a rare type of stone known to negate all Reiryoku, similar to magnetic lodestones, which prevents the ability to gather Reishi underneath your feet to walk in the air whist within Seireitei. The stone also forms a spherical barrier around the city, extending above and below, stopping anything spiritual from breaching it from ground level, from the sky or from underground.

The majority of the residents of Seireitei, nobility and Shinigami alike, do not interact with the citizens of Rukongai. However, residents of Rukongai, like Renji and Rukia, are allowed to apply for the Shinigami Academy, which is often the only escape from the poorest conditions of Rukongai.

Seireitei Locations

At the center of Seireitei are the

  • Senzaikyū (Shrine of Penitence): a large white tower, located at the center of the Seireitei and Sōkyoku Hill where executions take place, on the flat summit. Through the Sōkyoku (双).

Also located within Seireitei's walls.

  • Central 46 Compound: A underground complex that is highly restricted. The offices and living quarters of the central government of Soul Society.
  • Shinou Academy: The primary education center for perspective Shinigami.
  • 1st Division Headquarters & Barracks: Where the office & living quarters of the Captain-Commander commander can be found, as well as the Main Assembly Hall where he addresses the captain's of the Gotei 13.
  • 2nd Division Headquarters & Barracks: Where the office & living quarters of the Captain of the 2nd Divison/Commander-in-Chief of the Special Forces can be found.
Nest of Maggots: found on the 2nd Division grounds. Heavily guarded and secluded from the rest of the division buildings.
  • 3rd Division Headquarters & Barracks: Where the office & living quarters of the Captain of the 3rd Division can be found.
  • 4th Division Headquarters & Barracks: Where the office & living quarters of the Captain of the 4th Division can be found.
General Medical Facility: The primary medical facility of the Gotei 13 and all of Soul Society.
  • 5th Division Headquarters & Barracks: Where the office & living quarters of the Captain of the 5th Division can be found.
  • 6th Division Headquarters & Barracks: Where the office & living quarters of the Captain of the 6th Division can be found.
  • 7th Division Headquarters & Barracks: Where the office & living quarters of the Captain of the 7th Division can be found.
  • 8th Division Headquarters & Barracks: Where the office & living quarters of the Captain of the 8th Division can be found.
  • 9th Division Headquarters & Barracks: Where the office & living quarters of the Captain of the 9th Division can be found.
  • 10th Division Headquarters & Barracks: Where the office & living quarters of the Captain of the 10th Division can be found.
  • 11th Division Headquarters & Barracks: Where the office & living quarters of the Captain of the 11th Division can be found.
  • 12th Division Headquarters & Barracks: Where the office & living quarters of the Captain of the 12th Division can be found.
Shinigami Research and Development Institute: The primary research and development facility of the Gotei 13 and all of Soul Society.
  • 13th Division Headquarters & Barracks: Where the office & living quarters of the Captain of the 13th Division can be found.
  • Kuchiki Family Manor Compound: Ancestral seat and home of the Kuchiki family. It holds the single most complete and extensive archives detailing the history of Soul Society.
  • Shihōin Family Manor Compound: Ancestral seat and home of the Shihōin family.
  • Kasumiōji Family Manor Compound: Ancestral seat and home of the Kasumiōji family.
