Sawatari (沢渡, Sawatari) is an (anime-only) character in the anime-exclusive Bount arc. He is one of the Bounts.

Appearance
Sawatari seems to be the oldest Bount, but this is merely a by-product of his eating habits. He has been consuming living souls for far longer than any other Bount, causing him to age. He wears a black suit, with a light purple garment underneath.
Personality
When fighting, Sawatari seems to think of his opponents as mere children, similar to Yamamoto-Genryūsai. But he seems to be power-hungry like the rest of his tribe, and wanted to overthrow Kariya as leader of the Bounts.
Synopsis
In the Human world Sawatari was fighitng against Rangiku Matsumoto, Chad, Noba and Ururu. His doll, who moves through space, almost swallowed Rangiku's Zanpakutō, but she quickly reformed the ash. Thinking they would be safe off ground, the group moved to the nearest rooftop. However, he came through the wall and attacked Chad. Ururu stepped in front and was instead swallowed. Rangiku and Chad distracted Sawatari long enough to push him into Noba's shield. Unfortunately, he broke out of the dimension and retreated.
After the Bounts invaded Soul Society, Sawatari confronted Mayuri Kurotsuchi. As they fought, it was revealed that Mayuri had been chasing after Sawatari all along with his sensor device, similar to the one Kisuke Urahara created. Sawatari used the same tactic of sneaking up behind Mayuri, but he wasnt easily taken. Annoyed, Mayuri abandoned the thought of using him as research and released his Bankai. Before dying, Sawatari revealed he ate many souls in order to overthrow Kariya.
Powers & Abilities
Doll
Baura (バウラ) is Sawatari's doll. Baura is a giant brown whale made from hardened rock-like scales, which Sawatari sits on top of in something reminiscent of a chair. While moving or being attacked Baura can cover up Sawatari with these scales protecting him from assault.
- Space Manipulation: by generating a special dimensional space, he can swim and move freely through that space. Being a fish-like entity, Baura travels around by "swimming" through solid objects by means of phasing through a different dimension that only he can access. To emerge, however, the exit point must be large enough to accommodate him. In Soul Society, his power is enhanced, allowing him to move to his dimension in midair.
- Inner Dimension: Baura can swallow opponents whole; its stomach is a link to another dimension. Anything caught inside is eventually dissolved, leaving the soul for Sawatari to absorb.
- Reiatsu Stealth: While in his dimension, his and Sawatari's Spiritual Pressure is effectively concealed until Baura chooses to resurface. Only Noba, who can also manipulate space, was able to track his movements.
Trivia
- In the Icelandic language the name of Sawari's doll Baura is similar to the word Bára which is a wave in water.
