Uryū Ishida absorbing Spirit Particles from Soul Society.

Reishi (霊子, Spirit Particles) is the main component material of Souls and all spiritual matter.

Overview[]

Reishi composes the spiritual bodies of Souls, including Hollows and Shinigami, and everything in Hueco Mundo and Soul Society.[1][2][3] Reishi is invisible and intangible to mortals, with the exception of spiritually aware ones such as the Quincy or Fullbringers.[4]

There is also a certain amount of Reishi in the Human World. Free Reishi tends to be found in places closer to nature. Quincy collect this Reishi to use for combat in the form of Spirit Weapons.[3] Reishi in the atmosphere is also able to be controlled freely, allowing a person to gather it under their feet so that they can stand on air.[5] In Soul Society, for most Souls that die, their entire bodies and clothes eventually degrade and become the very Reishi that makes up Soul Society.[6][7]

Related Concepts[]

Kishi (器子, Holdlet(s)): The material that makes up the things in the World of the Living.[8] Kishi cannot enter spiritual planes such as the Soul Society or Hueco Mundo.[2][3]

Reishi Henkan-Ki: Spirit Particle conversion machine. A device to convert Kishi into Reishi. It is used to allow Uryū Ishida, Orihime Inoue, and Yasutora Sado to accompany Ichigo Kurosaki to Soul Society.[2]

Reishi-based Techniques[]

Hirenkyaku (飛廉脚, Pure Flying Step) is a method which Quincy use to travel quickly over short distances. Essentially, it is the Quincy equivalent to the Shinigami's Shunpo, or the Arrancar's Sonído.

  • Platform Manifestation: An instance of Hirenkyaku that allows the user to create a platform of Reishi under their feet. It can be used in the Garganta, and Hueco Mundo.[9]

Shunpo (瞬歩, Flash Steps): The method which Shinigami use to travel faster than the eye can follow.[10]

Blue Flames: Certain members of the Wandenreich possess the ability to produce blue flames composed of condensed Reishi. These flames are powerful enough to set fire to the rocks and sand of Hueco Mundo, which are usually incapable of burning.[11]
