Kon is Deceived! Rangiku on the Lookout.. is the one hundred and thirty-fifth episode of the Bleach anime.
Kon is forced to live with a girl named Miyuki.
Summary[]
At Orihime Inoue's apartment in Karakura Town, a smiling 10th Division Lieutenant Rangiku Matsumoto opens the front door after the doorbell is rung, only to not see anyone outside and look around before discovering that she has accidentally stepped on Kon, who praises the angle he is looking at Rangiku from prior to screaming in agony while an irritated Rangiku punishes him for this. Shortly afterward, a battered Kon wobbles down the street next to a strolling Rangiku.
Despite Kon insisting that he did not intend for that to happen, Rangiku muses that he seemed to have been standing in a predesignated spot, and when Kon reiterates that he was being sincere about it being a good view, an unamused Rangiku grabs him by the throat and questions why she has to give him a break when he is the only one who benefited here, leading Kon to apologize. Suddenly, Rangiku is alerted by a truck honking its horn as it passes over a nearby bridge and narrowly misses Miyuki.
Startled by this, Miyuki drops her dog plushie, which falls into the river below, and begins frantically climbing through the guard rail of the bridge in pursuit of it while an alarmed Kon expresses shock at this and Rangiku warns Miyuki to watch out. When Miyuki loses her balance and falls into the river as well, Kon and Rangiku run over to the railing next to the river, where Kon assumes that Rangiku will jump into the river to rescue Miyuki. However, Rangiku instead dons a Gokon Tekkō and pushes Kon's Gikongan out before throwing it directly into the mouth of Miyuki's plushie, causing him to gain control of it.
With Rangiku pointing out Miyuki to him, Kon begins swimming toward her and responds to Rangiku instructing him to swim properly by explaining that the water his new body has absorbed is weighing him down prior to reaching Miyuki, wrapping his arms around her, and paddling to safety. Moments later, Kon pants on all fours on the path next to the river and chastises Rangiku for her cruel behavior. Inspecting an unconscious Miyuki, who is lying on the ground, Rangiku asserts that this method was faster than her exiting her Gigai would have been. Upon seeing Miyuki wake up, Rangiku expresses relief and tells Kon to stay still for a while.
Rangiku asks Miyuki if she is alright, only to be confused when Miyuki wonders where Shintarō is before jolting up in astonishment when civilians nearby begin gathering after hearing that someone fell into the river. Once she gets to her feet and grabs Kon, who is still inhabiting her plushie, Miyuki tells a police officer that Shintarō saved her, and as the perplexed officer searches for a Shintarō in the gathered crowd of people, Kon sees Rangiku walking away and nervously wonders what is going to happen to him, with his fear intensifying into terror when Rangiku simply tells him to take care and nonchalantly leaves.
Some time later, the police officer escorts Miyuki back to her family's apartment and inquires about whether she is sure that she will be alright by herself, which prompts Miyuki to confirm this and thank him for dropping her off here. After the police officer closes the door, Miyuki runs to the living room, drops Kon on the floor, and runs away, allowing Kon to sit up and ruminate on how tiring it is to act like a stuffed animal prior to noticing the luxurious furnishings of the room he is in and expressing shock at how large the television nearby is. Wondering what jobs Miyuki's parents must have to afford all this, Kon realizes that Miyuki is returning.
With Kon flopping back on the carpet in the living room and becoming motionless once more, Miyuki runs over to him with a towel and apologizes for taking so long as she calls him Shintarō. Once she dries Kon's exterior off with the towel, Miyuki presses a hairdryer against his mouth to dry out his stuffing, but Kon is unable to withstand the increasingly high temperature of his body and leaps into the air as he screams about how hot it is and rolls around on the ground to cool himself off, leaving Miyuki speechless with surprise until she calls him Shintarō again, which leads Kon to freeze in his tracks and slowly turn toward her in fright.
Upon seeing Kon moving and talking, an overjoyed Miyuki hugs him and expresses delight at how he really can talk, only to release Kon when the latter complains that he cannot breathe. After admitting he thought he was going to die, Kon realizes something and inquires about why Miyuki is not surprised he can move, which prompts Miyuki to reveal she has been praying for him to gain this ability, unnerving Kon, prior to deducing Kon is the one who saved her in the river and bowing to thank him when he confirms this. Pleased by this recognition, Kon asks Miyuki for her name, leading the latter to introduce herself and wonder why he does not know it.
Panicking at this reaction since he wants her to believe that he is Shintarō, Kon claims that he does know her name already and simply lost his memory when he fell into the river, which Miyuki accepts. After sighing in relief, Kon questions whether Miyuki is the only one in this apartment, and once Miyuki confirms this, Kon asks her where her parents are, leading Miyuki to reveal that her mother is at work and her father is not here because he was a deadbeat whom her mother dumped, startling Kon with her casual usage of the term, as she explains how her mother always comes home late at night due to being very busy at her job.
With Miyuki concluding that this leaves her to look after the house by herself, Kon admits that she is admirable despite her young age before expressing surprise when Miyuki invites him to play with her. Shortly afterward, an irritated Kon finds himself being dressed in frilly pink clothing again and wonders if Miyuki is affiliated with Yuzu Kurosaki. When Miyuki serves him a plate filled with rubber dolls to eat and stuffs several of them into his mouth, an aghast Kon spits them all out and angrily declares that he cannot eat them. However, Miyuki begins crying at this, forcing an embarrassed Kon to repent by stuffing the dolls back into his mouth.
Afterward, an exhausted Kon flops on the ground and asserts that he will not survive if he keeps doing that, Miyuki asks him about what he wants to play next, and though he is aghast at the idea of playing pretend with her again, Kon has a realization and suggests that they go play outside since it is sunny and bright enough to be playing with her friends out there. Despite this, Miyuki refuses to outside and informs Kon that she does not have friends, to his concern, before proclaiming that she does not need friends and falling to her knees in tears while Kon rushes to her side to console her and expresses uncertainty as to what he should do.
Once he gets her a box of tissues to blow her nose with, Kon notes that Miyuki is a crybaby, which she calls him mean for, and inquires about why she was outside earlier if she hates going outside. Seeing that Miyuki looks like she is about to start crying again, Kon frantically assures her that she does not have to, but Miyuki reveals that she wanted to see her former home where she and her mother lived with her father. With Kon intrigued by this, Miyuki recounts how they lived in a bigger home when her mother and father were friendly with each other, where they had a big white dog named Shintarō who would play with her all day.
Though Kon is confused by this since he is supposed to be named Shintarō, Miyuki clarifies that this was a real dog and that her mother bought her the plushie since the original Shintarō could not live with them in this apartment. When Kon wonders if the first Shintarō is living with her father, Miyuki flatly states that he died when he was hit by a car and begins tearing up again, leading an alarmed Kon to bring up how she must not have wanted to leave the house if she had so much fun there. In response, Miyuki observes that she had no choice because her mother is having a hard time right now, having left with Miyuki after an argument with her father.
An unnerved Kon assumes that her mother is acting coldly to her by acting as though nothing happened even she fell into the river, only for Miyuki to detail how she asked her mother to not call her since the latter is working hard at her job and should not have to worry about Miyuki. With Miyuki concluding that she can have fun with him without going outside, Kon deduces that she is really lonely even though she is acting tough and must have wanted to go to her previous home due to remembering something fun that happened there before announcing that they will go to her former home and promising a surprised Miyuki that he will come with her.
As Miyuki rushes over and hugs him in gratitude, a compressed Kon struggles to breathe and slightly laments his decision. Some time later, Kon stands with Miyuki before the latter's former home and marvels at its size, though he notes that no one seems to be living in it. When Miyuki admits that she does not know if anyone is, a startled Kon questions if this is the first time she has been here since she moved, and after affirming this, Miyuki walks over to a small vase with a wilted flower that has fallen over next to a telephone pole. Informing a curious Kon that this is where Shintarō was hit by a car, Miyuki kneels to adjust the vase.
Suddenly, Kon briefly detects a malevolent Reiatsu when Miyuki touches the vase and warns her that they have to leave because this place is dangerous, to Miyuki's shock. While looking around the area in concern, Kon and Miyuki are startled when they both experience the Reiatsu again and hear an unearthly howl as the vase shatters into dozens of pieces and the telephone pole next to it is slashed through diagonally near the base, causing it to fall over and tear apart the telephone lines running through it. Upon seeing this, Kon manages to pull a frightened Miyuki away by the hand right before the telephone pole crashes down onto the ground and through a wall.
With the ripped wires crackling with electricity on the ground nearby, another telephone pole falls over in front of Miyuki and Kon, who notes that they have no choice but to go into the house now. Once Kon pushes open the iron gate and runs inside the courtyard with Miyuki, the gate slams shut behind them, which Miyuki alerts Kon to while he realizes that they were being forced inside from the start. Telling Miyuki that they have to run, Kon begins leading her behind the house and details how this is the work of an evil spirit called a Hollow, which he mentally ruminates on having seen many more of lately for an unknown reason.
A nearby branch is broken off its tree and two glass doors shatter behind Miyuki, who is told by Kon to not stop running, prior to a metal bucket and potted plant being lifted into the air and hurled toward Miyuki. However, Kon manages to kick the bucket away and punch the plant down to the ground, breaking its pot in the process, and as he instructs Miyuki to get away from here as quickly as possible, the two of them see the Hollow's head emerging from a dark void in the air in front of them, which Kon curses at. Upon seeing the second head of the Hollow emerging from another void to the right of the first head, Kon initially assumes that there are two Hollows.
Though he is slightly relieved when the Hollow fully emerges from the voids and reveals that it has two heads on one body, Kon quickly declares that this is not the time to relax and deduces that the Hollow is not going to let them pass when it menacingly advances toward them. Upon being asked by Miyuki about what the Hollow is, Kon is surprised that she can see it, but Miyuki clarifies that she can only see a blurry figure as the Hollow growls with both heads. In response, Kon kicks the metal bucket at the Hollow's right head, knocking it back and stunning it, before grabbing Miyuki by the arm and running back around the house with her.
With the Hollow pursuing them and slamming into the fence behind them at high speeds, Kon assures a worried Miyuki that everything is going to be fine, but internally wonders what they are going to do since the Hollow has closed off the front gate and seems to have only left the option of beating it. When a perplexed Kon sees that the Hollow is no longer pursuing them from behind, it slides into view in front of them from the other side of the house as a scared Miyuki asks Kon about what is happening. Despite promising to protect Miyuki, Kon expresses frustration at having to fight in this body, and after telling Miyuki to find an opening to run away, Kon charges forward.
Kon attempts to distract the Hollow by feinting both left and right, only for the Hollow to roar with both its heads, stunning Kon and causing Miyuki to fall on her rear from the resulting shockwave. Angered by this, Kon leaps into the air and comes down onto the Hollow with a leg drop as the Hollow rises to meet him with its heads. However, Kon's plushie leg does not harm the left head of the Hollow at all upon impacting it, and the annoyed Hollow flings Kon high into the air before swiping him away with its paw when he falls back down, resulting in Kon bouncing off the wall and side of the house repeatedly until he hits the ground battered and dazed.
When Miyuki runs toward Kon in concern, the Hollow roars once more and begins pursuing her, leading Kon to recover and dash past Miyuki, whom he tells to run away, in order to begin attacking the Hollow repeatedly despite his weakness, with Miyuki watching while he throws punches and kicks, eventually landing inside the mouth of the left head. Though the Hollow attempts to swallow him, Kon pries open its jaws from inside and relishes in his persistence, only for the head to force its mouth closed and chew Kon up prior to pushing him out with its tongue and repeatedly stomping on him with its left foreleg, to Miyuki's horror.
With Kon warning Miyuki to run away, the Hollow stops stomping on him and steps over him toward her, and when Kon attempts to stop it, the Hollow kicks him away with its right hind leg, leaving him with stuffing pouring out of multiple holes in his body. Upon seeing the Hollow knock Miyuki down with another fierce roar and begin advancing toward her, Kon attempts to get up again as a frightened Miyuki tearfully begs for Shintarō to save her. Suddenly, the Hollow stops in its tracks and the left head bites the right head's neck, causing it to roar in agony, just before Rangiku calls out to Kon and comes down on the Hollow with a vertical slash of her Zanpakutō.
While the purified Hollow's body dissipates from the heads down, Kon tells Rangiku that she is late, but is shocked to see the Souls of both Shintarō and a Doberman appear in place of the left and right heads of the Hollow, respectively, prior to dissipating as well. Miyuki runs over and embraces Kon, who apologizes for getting her involved in something strange, and when Miyuki points out how he is in tatters, Kon tells her that she is blessed and reveals that she was saved by the original Shintarō just now due to the latter being worried about her as well, which leaves Miyuki astonished while Kon observes that it is over for him as well.
Despite Miyuki tearfully protesting this since she is finally able to talk to him, Kon frees himself from her grasp and asserts that she cannot rely on him forever, though he assures her that he will always be watching her even if he cannot speak. When Kon points out how she can make other friends now, Miyuki denies needing other friends when she has him, but Kon rejects this and tells a solemn Miyuki that he knows she is actually lonely, due to her trying not to cause her mother trouble now that she is busy after moving for her own convenience, only to state that there is no need for Miyuki to push herself so hard over this.
Recounting how he was created as a Modified Soul to be abandoned at someone else's convenience and acknowledging that this will not make much sense to Miyuki, Kon informs Miyuki that he did not think there was anything he could do about it until his friends saved him, to her surprise, and claims that they are all helpless without him due to their stupidity, which is what makes them amusing. After concluding that Miyuki making friends would give her mother some peace of mind, Kon hears sirens in the distance and notes that it is almost time as he reiterates that both he and the original Shintarō will be watching over Miyuki.
Once a weeping Miyuki responds to him wishing her good luck and requesting a reply by promising that she will follow his advice, Kon bids her farewell and lets his plushie body fall motionless. Later that day, with the sun beginning to set, Miyuki's mother kneels in front of her former home and hugs her crying daughter while Rangiku stands nearby with Kon and observes that this matter is settled. When Kon comments on how much trouble Miyuki gave him, Rangiku wonders why he went to so much effort to help her, which prompts Kon to assert that all children idolize him because he is known as Kon the Endearing, to Rangiku's bemusement.
Upon being asked by Kon about why so many Hollows have been appearing lately, Rangiku confirms his suspicion that there have been more than usual and nonchalantly informs him that a large battle may be approaching, but refuses to elaborate and walks away, leaving Kon to watch Miyuki happily talking to her mother and express hope that she will do her best prior to running after Rangiku when she promises to leave him behind if he does not.
Shinigami Illustrated Picture Book[]
In Orihime Inoue's apartment, 10th Division Lieutenant Rangiku Matsumoto lies on the floor with several snacks and reads a magazine as her irritated captain, Tōshirō Hitsugaya, cleans up trash behind her and demands that Rangiku do so as well since she is becoming lazy while staying in the Human World. Once Hitsugaya cleans the room with one trash bag, Rangiku confronts him and angrily reminds Hitsugaya that he cannot put everything in the same bag since he needs to separate the trash, which Hitsugaya meekly acknowledges, and orders him to start over before sticking her tongue out as Hitsugaya realizes what she is asking.
