Ishida・Chad, the Quickening of a New Power is the one hundred and forty-fourth episode of the Bleach anime.

Uryū Ishida and Yasutora Sado demonstrate their new level of power after arriving in Hueco Mundo.

Summary[]

Ep144IchigoSadoUryuEnterHuecoMundo

Ichigo Kurosaki, Yasutora Sado, and Uryū Ishida break into Hueco Mundo.

Ichigo Kurosaki, Yasutora Sado, and Uryū Ishida break out of the Garganta they were traveling through and into Hueco Mundo in search of Orihime Inoue. Upon landing on the floor of the building they emerged in, Ichigo is surprised by Hueco Mundo being solid instead of slimy, though Uryū cautions him to lower his voice since their entrance cannot have gone unnoticed. With Ichigo continuing to wonder if this is really Hueco Mundo, an irritated Uryū demands to know if he is listening.

Ep144IchigoCallsOut

Ichigo decides to intentionally draw the attention of the Arrancar in the building.

In turn, Ichigo asserts that he is listening and points out how Uryū is speaking louder than he is, which the latter apologizes for, before musing that the Arrancar noticing their arrival will make this a lot faster because they can simply grab the first one who confronts them and inquire about Orihime's location. With Ichigo repeatedly calling out to the hallway to see if anyone is present, Sado concurs with his idea and joins him, leaving a startled Uryū to express disbelief at this and run after them. Meanwhile, in a surveillance room, Aisslinger Wernarr responds to blaring alarms and sees Ichigo's group walking on a screen.

Ep144UryuPressesPanel

Uryū accidentally presses a hidden panel in the wall.

In another part of the building, Uryū peers out from behind a corner and notes that it seems to be safe, but is annoyed when Ichigo walks out from behind him with Sado and continues to call out for the Arrancar. When Ichigo responds to him protesting this by pointing out that it looks safe, Uryū wonders if he has any sense of caution, and when Sado tells him to calm down, a frustrated Uryū slams the side of his fist against the wall and claims that he is calm. Suddenly, Uryū's motion presses a hidden panel into the wall, causing the floor of the hallway in front of them to begin crumbling away in sections after a delay of several seconds.

Ep144UryuCatchesSado

Uryū saves Sado from falling into the pit below.

Alarmed by this, Ichigo, Sado, and Uryū begin running away, with Ichigo berating Uryū for doing this and Uryū countering that it was Ichigo's fault to begin with, to Ichigo's further irritation. After Sado tells them that this is no time to be arguing, Uryū sees a side path up ahead, which Ichigo gladly decides to take, and the two of them run into it, though the floor collapses underneath Sado's feet before he can reach the path, forcing Uryū to grab him by the wrist before he falls into the pit below. With Uryū struggling to hold Sado up and beginning to slip over the side as well, Ichigo grabs Uryū by the back of his collar and hoists them both up.

Ep144IchigoSadoUryuExplore

Ichigo, Sado, and Uryū continue exploring the building.

In the aftermath, as the three of them pant in exertion, Sado thanks Uryū for saving him, Uryū comments on the old-fashioned nature of the trap, and Ichigo reminds him that he is the one who fell for this trap, which Uryū apologizes for, to Ichigo's amusement. Once Sado suggests that they keep moving, the three of them walk down a curving hallway that Uryū observes seems safe. While Ichigo questions how long the hallway goes on for and Uryū points out that he does not know this, Sado muses on how deep into the complex they have gone, only for Ichigo to complain about how they still have not found anyone and wonder if they entered an abandoned building.

Ep144SadoSlowsBall

Sado attempts to stop the rolling ball with his hand.

Despite claiming that he is being careful when Uryū warns him to keep his guard up, Ichigo finds himself stepping on another hidden panel in the floor, leaving Uryū bewildered at this happening again, and the group hears a rumbling noise from up ahead, which Ichigo declines to speculate on the nature of at Uryū's prompting. Upon seeing an enormous stone ball rolling down the hallway toward them, Uryū mocks how basic the traps are, though Ichigo interprets this as him being impressed by them, prior to Sado stepping in front of them and telling Ichigo and Uryū to let him handle this as he holds out his hand to grab the rolling ball.

Ep144DemouraAppears

Demoura Zodd appears in the hallway behind the group.

Pushed back by the force of the ball, Sado manages to slow it down and releases his grip to punch the ball, which cracks apart at the point of impact and quickly crumbles to pieces. With Ichigo praising this and Sado giving him a thumbs-up, Uryū criticizes Ichigo for not keeping his guard up like he was instructed to, and while Ichigo admits to being at fault and turns away, Uryū asserts that he is not done talking to Ichigo yet. However, they are interrupted when Demoura Zodd slams his hand into the ceiling behind them while emerging from a nearby hallway and demanding to know who they are, which leads Ichigo to smile at someone having shown up.

Ep144UryuExplainsRisk

Uryū explains why they cannot fight in the corridor.

Suddenly, Uryū pulls Ichigo back by the collar and begins running away with Sado. When Ichigo protests this since they finally have an enemy whom they can get information out of, Uryū asserts they could cause the corridor they are in to collapse if they fight here. Though Ichigo does not believe it would collapse and questions why it would matter if it did, Uryū points out how there are no windows on the walls, and when a nonplussed Ichigo wonders why this matters, Uryū angrily concludes they must be underground if there are no windows and urgently notes they need a much bigger and more open area to fight in prior to Sado pointing out an exit ahead of them.

Ep144AisslingerConfrontsUryu

Aisslinger Wernarr prevents Uryū from leaving.

Ichigo, Sado, and Uryū pass through the exit and emerge in a large chamber held up by thick pillars. As Ichigo questions if this is big enough for him, Uryū notices a set of stairs and attempts to run over to them in order to see if they lead outside, only for Aisslinger to appear before him with Sonído and demand to know where Uryū thinks he is going. With Uryū noting there being more than one Arrancar in a place like this is logical, Demoura emerges from the passageway behind Ichigo and Sado, leading Uryū to conclude they are trapped, which Ichigo berates him for. Upon looking at Demoura and Aisslinger, Ichigo observes they look more like Hollows than Arrancar.

Ep144SadoUryuTellIchigo

Sado and Uryū tell Ichigo to let them handle this.

Suddenly, when Ichigo tells Sado and Uryū to stand back while he handles this, Sado elbows him hard in the side of the head, sending Ichigo crashing into a nearby wall. Upon being confronted by an incredulous Ichigo over this, Sado counters that he is the one who should stand back while he and Uryū take care of this, which Uryū concurs with. Uryū tells Ichigo to save his stamina and explains how Kisuke Urahara told them about the Arrancar hierarchy and Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez's group being a mixture of Gillians and Adjuchas, with Menos Grandes generally taking humanoid forms when turned into Arrancar while only Vasto Lorde remain humanoid throughout.

Ep144UryuEvadesPunch

Uryū is forced to evade a punch from Demoura.

With Uryū concluding many Gillians and Adjuchas consequently never take Human form even after becoming Arrancar and look more like Hollows when they have lower intelligence, he is forced to evade a punch from Demoura that shatters the ground where he was standing while Aisslinger fires several projectiles at Sado when the latter attempts to run to Uryū's aid and takes offense at this description since he is not stupid, unlike Demoura, who denies this as well. Upon emerging from the dust kicked up by Demoura's punch and attempting to summon his Heilig Bogen, Uryū is shocked to see Demoura notice him and slam his hand into the ground.

Ep144AisslingerOutmaneuversSado

Aisslinger easily outmaneuvers Sado with Sonído.

While Demoura's blow showers Uryū with debris and prevents him from moving around, Sado manifests his Fullbring, Brazo Derecha de Gigante, and fires an energy blast at Aisslinger, only for the latter to easily evade the blast with Sonído and clarifies that he and Demoura simply abandoned their humanoid forms in exchange for immense power prior to firing more blasts from his tendril-like fingers at Sado, who blocks them with Brazo Derecha de Gigante as Aisslinger concludes that Humans like Sado and Uryū should not take them lightly. After Uryū evades a two-handed blow from Demoura, Ichigo expresses concern for him and Sado.

Ep144UryuShovesIchigo

Uryū shoves Ichigo when the latter tries to intervene.

Though Uryū tells Ichigo to shut up and watch, he is forced to dodge another strike from Demoura and is slapped out of the air when he jumps, causing him to roll along the ground and narrowly evade two more punches from Demoura. In response, an angered Ichigo declares that he is Demoura's opponent and runs forward to attack the latter with his Shikai, Zangetsu, but Uryū shoves him out of the way at the last second just before Demoura's fist crashes into the area where Ichigo was standing. Sent tumbling along the ground by this, Ichigo demands to know what Uryū is doing, only for the latter to reiterate that he should stay out of the way.

Ep144AisslingerResurreccion

Aisslinger attacks Sado with Uña Tirotear.

Left aghast at this, Ichigo is tackled aside by Sado, who concurs that he should stay out of this and runs off to evade Uña Tirotear bullets from Aisslinger, who warns Sado that he does not have time to be concerned about others. With Aisslinger evading another energy blast from Sado and continuing his barrage of bullets, leaving Ichigo astonished by Sado and Uryū enduring this, Uryū dodges another punch from Demoura and observes the latter is wrapping Reishi around his hands when attacking, which Uryū admits is a more troublesome attack than it seems due to its disruption of the surrounding Reishi making it impossible for him to construct a Reishi Heisō.

Ep144UryuIndicatesSwitch

Uryū indicates a change of plans to Sado.

However, while wishing that he could put some distance between himself and Demoura as Aisslinger evades another energy blast from Sado, Uryū has an idea and gets Sado's attention prior to making a rotating motion with his hand. Nearby, Aisslinger internally mocks Sado for being too slow to keep up with his Sonído and classifies him as having power but lacking speed while Uryū has speed but lacks power, only to express confusion upon noticing Uryū landing near a running Sado and standing still after telling him to do it now. When Demoura continues rampaging toward Uryū and assumes he has given up, Aisslinger warns him to wait.

Ep144SadoUryuPrepareAttack

Sado and Uryū prepare to begin their counterattack.

Suddenly, Sado punches Demoura hard in his left cheek with Brazo Derecha de Gigante, shattering part of his mask and sending him flying over a stunned Aisslinger. Standing in front of Sado, Uryū observes that the matchup matters while Demoura staggers off and admits that fighting the same opponent so much recently made him overlook the obvious solution of switching opponents if both he and Sado are having trouble fighting two against two as he forms his Heilig Bogen, Ginrei Kojaku, and declares that it is their turn. With Ichigo left shocked by its appearance and wondering if it is really a bow, Uryū counters that he would not use any other type of weapon.

Ep144GruaTirar

Sado throws Demoura overhead with Grua Tirar.

Uryū rotates the bow to aim it at Aisslinger before drawing back a Heilig Pfeil, naming Ginrei Kojaku, and firing several Heilig Pfeil in rapid succession, to Aisslinger's shock. Nearby, Demoura rears back and falls against a wall, cratering it upon impact, to pant heavily as Sado muses that he should not have destroyed Demoura's mask since he looked better with it on. Angered by this, Demoura throws a punch at Sado, who effortlessly catches it with Brazo Derecha de Gigante and responds to Demoura struggling to overpower him by questioning if this is all the latter has got prior to slamming Demoura into the ground with Grua Tirar.

Ep144UryuPursuesAisslinger

Uryū easily keeps up with Aisslinger's Sonído.

Back in front of Uryū, a bleeding Aisslinger emerges from the cloud of dust kicked up by the impact of the Heilig Pfeil and curses Uryū as he begins to run away with Sonído, only for Uryū to easily catch up to him with Hirenkyaku and commend Sonído for being fairly fast upon seeing it for the first time. When Aisslinger is left aghast at a Human keeping up with Sonído, Uryū clarifies that he is a Quincy rather than an ordinary Human and explains that Hirenkyaku is another high-speed movement technique which he considers superior to both the Shunpo of the Shinigami and the Sonído of the Arrancar.

Ep144UryuAisslingerProjectiles

Uryū and Aisslinger fire hundreds of projectiles at each other.

However, Aisslinger declares that he has never heard of Quincy, leaving Uryū disappointed by his ignorance, before asserting that Uryū being able to keep up with his Sonído means nothing unless the latter can counter his Uña Tirotear while firing hundreds of small energy bullets at Uryū with his tendril fingers. Uryū begins firing hundreds of Heilig Pfeil from Ginrei Kojaku at the approaching bullets, creating a cloud of colliding energy projectiles between the two of them. Seeing this, Aisslinger mocks this solution of shooting down all his bullets as something a child would think of and boasts that he can fire 108 bullets at once.

Ep144SadoStopsTongue

Sado effortlessly stops Demoura's Lengua Tronco.

In turn, Uryū reveals Ginrei Kojaku can fire 1,200 Heilig Pfeil at once, leaving Aisslinger in disbelief while a surge of Heilig Pfeil overcomes his bullets to converge on all sides and slam into Aisslinger simultaneously. Meanwhile, a winded Demoura pulls his head out of a wall, and as Sado approaches him, Demoura refuses to lose to a weakling like him and extends his tongue toward Sado with Lengua Tronco, only for the latter to stop it with Brazo Derecha de Gigante', causing it to bunch up on the floor in front of him, and point out to a shocked Demoura that this seeming to be a last-resort attack indicates that he is done fighting.

Ep144SadoPreparesAttack

Sado prepares to use El Directo.

With the red outer portions of the shoulder protrusion of Brazo Derecha de Gigante flaring open to expel a large amount of energy, Sado decides to take his turn and apologetically admits that he will have to finish off someone who has lost the will to fight even if he does not enjoy it because he cannot afford to be nice this time before initiating El Directo.

Ep144IchigoRukiaUnnerved

Ichigo Kurosaki and Rukia Kuchiki are unnerved by the Ōmaeda Clan.

2nd Division Lieutenant Marechiyo Ōmaeda introduces his family, with his father, mother, older sister, and younger brother all looking similar to him. However, his younger sister, Mareyo, appears completely different from the rest of them, with a cute face and petite body, and politely asks Ichigo Kurosaki and Rukia Kuchiki to take care of her brother while Marechiyo states that she is the only ugly one, leaving Ichigo to tell Rukia that there is something wrong with his family.
