Ichigo vs. Grimmjow, 11 second battle! is the one hundred and thirty-ninth episode of the Bleach anime.

As the battles against the Arrancar continue, Ichigo Kurosaki uses his new power against Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez.

Summary[]

Ep139IchigoAttacksGrimmjow

Ichigo Kurosaki attacks Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez in a powerful surge of Reiatsu.

In the air above Karakura Town, having confronted Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez, Ichigo Kurosaki pulls his hand down in front of his face to summon his Hollow mask in an explosion of red-black Reiatsu. When a shocked Grimmjow demands to know what this is, Ichigo asserts that he does not have time to explain and rapidly moves to Grimmjow with Shunpo before attacking him with Reiatsu trailing off his blade in a powerful slash that Grimmjow barely draws his Zanpakutō in time to block.

Ep139YammyBreaksFree

Yammy Llargo frees himself from the ice.

As Grimmjow struggles to hold him back, Ichigo unleashes a point-blank Getsuga Tenshō that envelops Grimmjow in a surging and enormous blast of Reiatsu. Elsewhere, 10th Division Captain Tōshirō Hitsugaya uses his Shikai, Hyōrinmaru, to create an ice dragon that crashes into Yammy Llargo and encases him in ice, but the latter quickly shatters the ice by simply flexing his muscles and mockingly calls it refreshingly cool while Hitsugaya internally realizes that he will have to use his Bankai against Yammy even with the Gentei Kaijo leaving his power unrestricted.

Ep139LuppiPreparesRelease

Luppi Antenor decides to fight all four Shinigami at once.

Nearby, 11th Division 5th Seat Yumichika Ayasegawa is sent flying by a blow from Luppi Antenor, who reiterates that Yumichika cannot beat him alone. Bleeding from a wound on his left temple, Yumichika simply tells Luppi to shut up, prompting the latter to ask 11th Division 3rd Seat Ikkaku Madarame if he will talk to Yumichika or let the latter die out of exasperation, only for Ikkaku to note that two against one is not his style. Annoyed by this, Luppi asks Yammy to let him have Hitsugaya so he can take Ikkaku, Yumichika, Hitsugaya, and 10th Division Lieutenant Rangiku Matsumoto on all at once with his Resurrección.

Ep139LanzaTentaculo

Hitsugaya blocks Luppi's Lanza Tentáculo with his wing.

Upon seeing Luppi drawing his Zanpakutō, Hitsugaya recalls Shawlong Koufang doing the same to activate his Resurrección, Tijereta, and refuses to let Luppi do the same as he rushes toward the latter and activates his Bankai, Daiguren Hyōrinmaru. However, a smirking Luppi manages to activate his Resurrección, Trepadora, releasing a huge cloud of steam that envelops Hitsugaya. Suddenly, a thick tentacle hurtles out of the steam and slams into Hitsugaya, who barely blocks it with his left ice wing and is sent skidding back through the air before coming to a halt and questioning if this is the extent of Luppi's Resurrección attack.

Ep139JaulaTentaculo

Luppi overwhelms Hitsugaya with Jaula Tentáculo.

Luppi simply praises him for being able to stop the attack against expectations and admits that the captains are decent, only to inquire about what Hitsugaya would do if this attack were eight times stronger while the steam clears to reveal seven more identical tentacles attached alongside the first one to a large protrusion on his back. With Hitsugaya stunned by this, Luppi attacks him with Jaula Tentáculo, slamming all eight tentacles into Hitsugaya simultaneously from different angles in an explosion of force. As Rangiku frantically calls out to a cursing Hitsugaya, he falls out of the air to the trees below.

Ep139RukiaJoinsRenji

Rukia Kuchiki meets up with Renji Abarai.

Reminding the Shinigami that he told them to fight him four-on-one, Luppi snidely corrects himself and describes this as four-on-eight. Meanwhile, in the Dangai, Rukia Kuchiki runs behind a Jigokuchō and expresses frustration with not having passed through yet, only to be relieved upon seeing the closed Senkaimon ahead. After emerging in the front yard of the Urahara Shop, Rukia leaps into the Study Chamber below through the hatch inside the shop itself and meets 6th Division Lieutenant Renji Abarai, who sits on a nearby rock with Ririn, Kurōdo, and Noba clinging to his head and shoulders.

Ep139GrimmjowInjured

Grimmjow is left heavily injured by Ichigo's attack.

When Rukia demands to know what he is doing and reminds him of the Espada appearing, Renji reveals he exhausted his Reiatsu while training too hard, prompting the Mod-Souls to claim they are currently massaging him. Though Rukia is aghast at this decision, Renji counters that the Espada should not be fought when not in peak condition and tells her Kisuke Urahara set out to confront them instead, to Rukia's surprise. Simultaneously, Grimmjow emerges from the point-blank Getsuga Tenshō alive, but bleeding profusely across his body as he realizes this was not just Shinigami power and demands to know how Ichigo accomplished this in just a month.

Ep139IchigoSlashesCero

Ichigo manages to push through Grimmjow's Cero.

In response, Ichigo merely fires another Getsuga Tenshō at Grimmjow, who struggles to block it with his Zanpakutō, and moves behind the latter before reiterating that he does not have time to explain and firing a third Getsuga Tenshō at Grimmjow's back, trapping him between the two blasts. Falling out of the sky with further injuries as Ichigo follows him, Grimmjow angrily fires a Cero from his palm, forcing Ichigo to block it with his sword, and reappears behind Ichigo with Sonído to attack him when Ichigo succeeds in dispersing the blast, which leads Ichigo to block this strike and clash evenly with Grimmjow several more times.

Ep139IchigoMaskShatters

Ichigo's Hollow mask suddenly shatters during the fight.

Suddenly, with Ichigo repelling Grimmjow's last strike and asserting that it is over as he prepares to attack once more, his mask shatters and falls off his face, prompting a startled Grimmjow to grin manically and affirm this as he sends Ichigo flying with a slash. Cursing his Hollow mask shattering at the worst possible time, Ichigo falls through the air while Grimmjow moves down to him with Sonído and slashes with his Zanpakutō, forcing Ichigo to block with the sword of his Bankai, Tensa Zangetsu, while Grimmjow observes that he seems to have used up all of his power since he began panting the second his mask came off.

Ep139LaHelice

Luppi overpowers the Shinigami with La Hélice.

Though he admits that he has been injured pretty badly, Grimmjow concludes that it is over and mocks Ichigo for being unable to beat him even with Ichigo's new power and overpowers Ichigo in a surge of Reiatsu. Elsewhere, Luppi uses La Hélice to rapidly spin the tentacles on his back and strike Rangiku, Ikkaku, and Yumichika multiple times with them, leaving the Shinigami bleeding. Unimpressed by this, Luppi questions if they are really officers of the Gotei 13 and continues attack them in boredom as Yammy sits nearby and grumbles about Luppi keeping him from having anything to do by taking on the Shinigami.

Ep139HierroVirgen

Luppi prepares to impale Rangiku with Hierro Virgen.

Claiming that it would be tiresome to go look for other combatants, Yammy yawns and calls out to Wonderweiss Margela in curiosity about what the latter is doing, only to see him catching a dragonfly and holding it up to his mouth to eat, to Yammy's confusion, prior to noticing something in the distance. During this, Luppi succeeds in binding Rangiku, Ikkaku, and Yumichika with his tentacles and compliments Rangiku for having such a curvaceous body, but threatens to puncture it with many holes as he uses Hierro Virgen to sprout dozens of spikes from the tip of another tentacle and sends it hurtling toward Rangiku, who grimaces.

Ep139KamisoriBenihime

Kisuke Urahara saves Rangiku from Luppi's clutches.

However, the tentacle is severed by Kamisori, Benihime, freeing Rangiku and shocking Luppi, and Kisuke Urahara expresses relief at arriving just in time as he walks along the ground below. When an annoyed Luppi questions who he is, Urahara apologizes for not introducing himself and stares solemnly at him. Meanwhile, at the Central Senkaimon in the Seireitei, Orihime Inoue is informed of the outer wall of the Dangai being stabilized and allowing her to pass through, prompting her to run inside while profusely thanking the Kidō Corps and as 13th Division Captain Jūshirō Ukitake tells her to be careful.

Ep139ShinigamiEscortOrihime

Two Shinigami accompany Orihime Inoue.

Shortly afterward, two unseated Shinigami join her as escorts and explain that it is customary for two Shinigami with their Jigokuchō removed to accompany guests through the Dangai, with Orihime no longer being considered a Ryoka and thus granted this custom. With one of the Shinigami apologizing for the nuisance, Orihime thanks him and mentally promises her friends that she will be able to help out now that she has gotten a little stronger. Suddenly, Ulquiorra Cifer expresses disdain at only two guards accompanying Orihime and asserts that the Shinigami are more incompetent than he thought they were.

Ep139WonderweissAttacksUrahara

Wonderweiss Margela suddenly attacks Urahara from behind.

Asserting that the Dangai is the most dangerous part of Orihime's journey, Ulquiorra emerges from a Garganta behind her. Back in Karakura Town, Urahara explains that he runs a candy store called the Urahara Shop as he claims that it is delightful to make Luppi's acquaintance and prepares to attack. However, Urahara is interrupted when Wonderweiss gleefully attacks him from behind, forcing Urahara to repel him with Nake, Benihime. While Urahara comments on him being somewhat strange, a smiling Wonderweiss raises his left hand and attacks a startled Urahara once more with a Bala that strikes with great force.

Ep139UlquiorraAmbushesOrihime

Ulquiorra Cifer confronts Orihime in the Dangai.

Simultaneously, in the Dangai, with an intimidated Orihime recognizing Ulquiorra from her prior encounter with him and Yammy, Ulquiorra criticizes her number of escorts as negligently low prior to admitting the Kōryū being disabled is convenient for him because he does not like being rushed when he is talking to someone. The Shinigami on Orihime's right draws his Zanpakutō and realizes Ulquiorra is an Arrancar, and as Ulquiorra withdraws his left hand from his pocket, Orihime frantically agrees to talk with him, only for Ulquiorra to fire a Bala from his hand that destroys the Shinigami's left arm and a large chunk of his torso.

Ep139SōtenKisshun

Orihime begins healing both Shinigami with Sōten Kisshun.

While Ulquiorra confirms that he wants to talk to her, Orihime immediately sets up her Sōten Kisshun around the fallen Shinigami and urgently tells the other Shinigami to run away now. However, Ulquiorra punches a hole in the second Shinigami's body with another Bala that destroys most of his arms as well, forcing Orihime to expand the radius of her Sōten Kisshun by having Ayame fly over to him to cover and begin healing both Shinigami. Upon seeing this, Ulquiorra praises Orihime's ability to heal such catastrophic wounds and asserts that her powers are truly impressive, but Orihime simply turns to glare at him.

Ep139GargantaBroadcast

Ulquiorra threatens to kill Orihime's friends if she does not come with him.

When Ulquiorra demands that she come with him, Orihime is left staring at him in disbelief, Ulquiorra promises her that he will kill her friends if she says anything other than "yes" and opens miniature Garganta to show Ichigo, Hitsugaya, and Rangiku. Ulquiorra warns Orihime that she is not permitted and questions or discussions because she has no rights here and can only save her friends from the guillotine they have placed their heads in with immediate compliance because this is an order rather than a negotiation, leaving Orihime mortified as he concludes that he has orders to bring her back unharmed due to Sōsuke Aizen wanting her powers and reiterates his demand for her to come with him.

Ep139LuppiRevealsDislike

Luppi Antenor reveals he does not like Gin Ichimaru.

Gin Ichimaru explains that an Arrancar who is born stronger than an existing Espada will switch places with the latter, as demonstrated by Luppi Antenor becoming the new Sexta Espada after Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez lost his arm. When Luppi asserts that he always knew he would become an Espada, Gin notes that they seem to be like-minded and laments that the other Espada do not like him, but Luppi cheerfully declares that he does not really like Gin either, to the latter's disappointment.
