Getsuga Tenshō

From Bleach Wiki

Ichigo's Shikai Getsuga Tenshō

Getsuga Tenshō (月牙天衝, "Moon Fang Heaven-Piercer") is Zangetsu's only special ability, making it Ichigo Kurosaki's signature attack.

Description

Getsuga Tenshō is a light blue blast of spiritual energy that Ichigo can fire from Zangetsu by swinging its blade. The most common form of the attack is a crescent-shaped blast, which Ichigo can launch at both ground and aerial targets. When used against the former, the blast often carves a path in the ground as it advances. The blast can instead be shot from the tip of Zangetsu’s blade, giving it more of a bullet-like form. Ichigo has also demonstrated the ability to store Getsuga Tenshō in Zangetsu’s blade rather than fire it, augmenting its blows with explosive force.

Ichigo's Bankai Getsuga Tenshō

While Ichigo is in Bankai, the blasts' color change from light blue to black, with red outlines. The blasts become faster and more powerful, and are often large enough to engulf the foe completely. Unlike the Shikai version, Ichigo can control the Getsuga Tenshō’s trajectory after launching it, providing it with greater range and accuracy. When Ichigo’s Inner Hollow uses his Bankai version of this attack, it is white instead of black.

Getsuga Tenshō expends a large amount of Ichigo's spiritual energy, which is why he cannot use the technique effectively in situations where he has expelled too much of it. Ulquiorra Cifer believes that the Getsuga Tenshō is Ichigo's strongest attack, and has compared it to a Hollow's Cero, particularly his own Cero Oscuras.

In Other Media

Getsuga Tenshō appears in many Bleach video games. In Bleach: Blade Battlers 2nd, Ichigo can hit an opponent four times with Getsuga Tenshō while using his mask for 11 seconds, for two uses of the mask. In other games, Getsuga Tenshō hits an opponent even when they are mobile.

Getsuga Tenshō also appears in Bleach: Soul Carnival, where it takes the form of a large sword blast that nearly takes up the entire screen and does moderate damage.

Getsuga Tenshō also appears in Bleach: Shattered Blade, and can inflict moderate to enormous amounts of damage. The Bankai version covers an entire horizontal line and hits more, whereas the Shikai version disperses.

Getsuga Tenshō also appears in Bleach: The Blade of Fate. The release requires one spiritual bar and releases a light blue attack.
