Saidō is a bit lecherous, commenting on how he had a clear view of a soul's panties, and making up rather lewd reasons for why Rukia Kuchiki decided to stay in the Human World, the main reason being how she was looking for "pleasures of the flesh". Despite this, he seems to be quite level-headed and kind, playing with some children in Rukongai prior to being assigned to find Rukia.
Agent of the Shinigami arc
While he is playing spinning tops with some children, a Shinigami, approaching Saidō, tells him he has come regarding "No. 13", Rukia Kuchiki. Hearing the name "Kuchiki", Saidō, laughing, asks what the "little princess" has done. The other states she has exceeded the time limit for staying in the Human World, and there may be more beneath the surface for Saidō to investigate. He is told to leave right away. Saidō arrives in Karakura Town, where he finds Rukia. Despite being two years Rukia's senior, Rukia states she has never seen him before. Not long after his arrival, he finds himself pressed into service assisting Rukia and Ichigo Kurosaki against Grand Fisher. After being wounded by Grand Fisher, he fell asleep. Witnessing the conclusion of the battle, he sees Ichigo defeat Grand Fisher. After Ichigo loses consciousness, Saidō, commenting on Ichigo's potential, decides to leave Rukia alone.
Fake Karakura arc
Saidō is put in charge of the area around Kagamino City. After a group of Hollows chasing the soul of a young girl are destroyed due to the sheer Reiatsu of the Shinigami and Espada, Saidō, commenting on the beginning of the battle, wonders who will win.
