Byakuya is summoned! The Gotei 13 start to move! is the eighty-seventh episode of the Bleach anime.
Sawatari retreats while an invisible intruder enters Soul Society and Uryū Ishida remembers training his Quincy powers.
Summary[]
Having incapacitated Noba, a chuckling Sawatari has his Doll, Baura, move him to his back, startling Yasutora Sado and 10th Division Lieutenant Rangiku Matsumoto, before having the latter dive down into the ground, which prompts Rangiku to assert that they need to run away. After Rangiku moves Noba onto Sado's back, the two of them begin running down the field, but Noba warns them that it is useless to do so as Baura surfaces in front of them, to their surprise.
Upon seeing this, Sado leaps to the side with Rangiku and fires an energy blast at Baura with his Fullbring, Brazo Derecha de Gigante, only to narrowly graze him and land on top of Noba, whom he rolls off of while Baura sinks back into the ground. With Sado expressing concern for Noba, Rangiku tells him to follow her, and as Sado picks up Noba once more and begins to run away with Rangiku, he sees the shadow of Baura swimming in front of them.
As Baura circles around her and Sado, Rangiku notes that he is not going to let them get away and internally admits that she cannot move very far using Shunpo due to her current limited Reiatsu and that it would be difficult to use Hohō while carrying both Sado and Noba, leaving her uncertain of what to do. However, Sado points out that she could manage to escape on her own and suggests that Rangiku leave him and Noba behind as decoys so she can run, though an astonished Rangiku admonishes him for saying something like this instead of focusing on getting away. Suddenly, Sado and Rangiku see Baura partially surface while continuing to circle around them.
Rangiku tells Sado that they will move as far away as possible with her Shunpo once Baura attacks, which Sado affirms. However, after narrowing the diameter of his encircling to a tight rotation, the shadow of Baura shrinks and disappears beneath Sado and Rangiku's feet, to their confusion, before Baura bursts out of the ground underneath them in a flash of energy that kicks up a large amount of dust and chunks of earth. In midair within the dust cloud, Rangiku pulls Sado and Noba back to the field outside and runs with Sado toward a nearby set of stairs, but finds Baura bursting out of the stairs as well with Sawatari mocking them for falling for his misdirection.
Cursing at this, Rangiku is suddenly teleported away alongside Sado by Noba, who deposits them on a sidewalk in a different part of Karakura Town. Amazed by Noba pulling this off in his condition, which he downplays, Rangiku observes that it will not be long before Sawatari catches up to them even though they have bought themselves some time. While looking across the street, Rangiku deduces that the clashes of Reiatsu she is sensing across the town must be 9th Division Lieutenant Shūhei Hisagi and the others, whom they have been lured far away from by the Bount, and concludes that it will be impossible to neutralize the power of Baura with Noba in this condition.
Upon hearing this, Sado declares that they are going to immobilize and catch Baura so they can make him cough up Ururu Tsumugiya, but Rangiku counters that he is putting this too simply and reminds Sado that their reliance on Noba to predict the appearances of Baura makes it hard for them to dodge, meaning that they cannot perform a calculated counterattack in that same instant and cannot damage Baura by just attacking him haphazardly. However, Sado suggests that he attack the belly of Baura where his scales seem thinnest, and after noting that they would need someone to be a decoy again, Rangiku encourages them to leave since it is dangerous here.
When Sado tells Noba that they should leave his Gigai here, Rangiku is left perplexed, leading Sado to inform her that Noba is a Modified Soul created for use against the Bount and that his body is a Gigai made by Kisuke Urahara, which Noba confirms is why he can tell where Sawatari is when Rangiku asks Sado about this. With Sado requesting that Rangiku remove Noba's Gikongan due to her Shinigami powers allowing her to do so, Noba insists that he is fine and that Mod-Souls cannot die as long as their Gikongan are not destroyed. Though Sado protests this, Noba assures him and Rangiku that he can still move through space with this body.
Suddenly, Rangiku asserts that they might be able to catch Sawatari if they combine her Kidō with Noba's Bount-tracking capabilities, only to caution them that it would use up the rest of their Reiryoku and leave them helpless if they fail. Despite this, Noba simply inquires about what he needs to do, and when Sado expresses concern for him, Noba reminds Sado that the Mod-Souls were created to defeat the Bount and that countless Humans have already fallen victim to the latter before concluding that he will do whatever he can as he gets to his feet, which Sado acknowledges. Rangiku reiterates that they have once chance and that she and Noba will draw out Sawatari.
Turning to Sado, Rangiku instructs him to attack during this time since they will be unable to move and encourages him to blow Sawatari away with the same attack that surprised 8th Division Captain Shunsui Kyōraku. Soon afterward, Sawatari rides Baura through the streets of Karakura Town and curses Sado and his friends for evading death, though he chuckles maliciously and proclaims this area will be their grave even if they are planning something while ordering Baura to pursue them. Elsewhere, at a pavilion bordering two skyscrapers, Rangiku stands with Sado and decides to initiate their plan here, which prompts Sado to set down Noba.
After donning a Gokon Tekkō on her right hand, Rangiku places it against Noba's chest, which glows blue around her hand, and reaches into it to extract Noba's Gikongan, causing his lifeless Gigai to close its eyes and slump forward while Sado pulls Noba's plushie body out of his pocket and places it on the ground, where Rangiku pushes Noba's Gikongan into its head. Upon coming to life in the plushie, Noba walks over to Rangiku and wraps himself around her forearm, and after instructing Noba to synchronize his Reiatsu with her own, Rangiku begins exerting her Reiatsu alongside Noba, which concerns Sado as he sees them sweating in exertion.
However, Noba's red Reiatsu and Rangiku's white Reiatsu successfully merge into a pink Reiatsu that solidifies around them and begins exerting pressure on the surrounding area, leading Sado to realize they have synchronized. With each of her eyes partially covered by a leaf-shaped intersection of their sclera, Rangiku draws a seal in ink on the ground and performs Bakudō #58. Kakushitsuijaku, which results in a beam of pink light being produced by the seal as it displays coordinates. Though Rangiku initially has trouble finding Sawatari and wonders if Bount Reiatsu acts differently, she eventually sees a swimming Baura displayed in the seal.
Rangiku proclaims success and notes Sawatari does not seem to notice their observance, but Noba warns her and Sado that he is approaching them. Questioning what direction Sawatari is coming from, Sado looks at Rangiku and Noba concentrating and internally asserts he cannot waste the chance they have created before a startled Rangiku ends the spell and tells him Baura will appear above them. Looking up, Sado sees Baura swim out of the middle of a skyscraper, and as an embedded Sawatari assumes Sado and his friends would never expect an attack from above, he is shocked to see Sado facing him with energy charging on Brazo Derecha de Gigante.
As Sawatari expresses disbelief at Sado and his friends knowing his location, a grinning Sado leaps into the air and delivers a powerful blow to the underbelly of Baura, sending the latter flying back up into the air while groaning in pain. Upon landing on the ground in front of a crashing Baura, Sado charges up energy on Brazo Derecha de Gigante again and fires it as a blast at Baura, who is pushed back by the force of it colliding with his underside and spits up a large amount of dust. With Sado panting in exhaustion, Baura writhes around and begins ejecting large quantities of dirt and trees from his mouth, culminating in Ururu being sent flying out.
While Sado calls out to her, Ururu lands on a broken tree in front of him and comments on having been brought back prior to collapsing on her face, to Sado's further concern. Nearby, a chuckling Sawatari sits on the tail of the incapacitated Baura and declares that they are going to finish this later since he is done fighting for the day. Though Rangiku refuses to let him run away, Sawatari calls out to Baura, who blinds the group with a bright flash of light and sinks into the ground with Sawatari, leaving it rippling in his wake. After observing that they escaped, Rangiku walks up to Sado and points out how he was still holding back since he could have defeated Baura with his full power.
However, Sado simply reminds her he could not have saved Ururu had he done this, which Rangiku acknowledges as she praises Sado for doing a good job, only to be startled when he collapses next to Ururu, leaving Noba to run to his side in concern. Meanwhile, at nighttime in the Shinigami Research and Development Institute in the Seireitei in Soul Society, 12th Division Captain Mayuri Kurotsuchi celebrates having finally found the Bount data and claims it was nothing he could not handle even though he does not know who hid it. Sitting down in his chair while his lieutenant, Nemu Kurotsuchi, stands by, Mayuri muses on not knowing the Bount had such a secret.
Questioning if he could get his hands on a Bount for experimentation by going to the Human World, Mayuri dismisses this as taking too much time and notes there is not enough time to get one of the Shinigami sent to the Human World for the fight against the Bount to help him either, which results in him wondering if there is anything he can do. Suddenly, Mayuri bolts up upon seeing something on his computer screen and realizes what he is seeing is the reason why the Bount need Uryū Ishida as the only person who can bind Reishi, prevent its dispersion, and force it to become power before ordering Nemu to take research material Q141 to the Human World.
With Nemu affirming that she will take Q141, Mayuri laughs maliciously at the thought of what will happen once Uryū acquires this item. Elsewhere, an annoyed 11th Division 3rd Seat Ikkaku Madarame stands with Goteitaishi and three other unseated Shinigami in front of a gate while demanding to know why he has to guard a place like this. Suddenly, as the other Shinigami remind Ikkaku that he is doing so on the orders of their captain, Kenpachi Zaraki, which he angrily claims to already know, a Hadō #31. Shakkahō crashes into the ground near the gate, destroying it and shocking the Shinigami, who assume battle stances and stare into the resulting cloud of smoke.
After asserting that someone is within the smoke, Ikkaku insists that they come out instead of sneaking around. Upon seeing a black shape leap out of the smoke, Ikkaku tells the other Shinigami to alert Kenpachi and leaps onto the roof of the nearby wall, where he begins pursuit as the Gotei 13 is alerted to an intruder being present in the Seireitei, causing the divisions to move out to their defensive positions. Back on the roof, Ikkaku continues his chase and internally observes that someone is definitely running in front of him, but questions why there is no Reiatsu coming from them before seeing a tile being broken in front of him and deducing that this is where his target is.
However, as he releases his Shikai, Hōzukimaru, Ikkaku is attacked and sent flying back, where he smashes into a portion of the roof and tumbles off to land on his feet on the ground below. Assuming a battle stance with Hōzukimaru, Ikkaku assumes that he is being tormented while his attacker is invisible and encourages the latter to attack him, only to not receive a response. With Ikkaku mentally realizing that his attacker has completely erased their presence and promising to get them as soon as they move, a broken piece of tile falls off the roof of the wall behind him, prompting Ikkaku to turn around and throw the bladed end of Hōzukimaru toward the roof, damaging it.
Despite this, the intruder swiftly moves past Ikkaku and slashes his cheek, splattering blood across the ground and leaving Ikkaku to stare angrily upon realizing that the former has escaped. Meanwhile, at the Kuchiki Manor, 6th Division Captain Byakuya Kuchiki stares up at the full moon prior to being alerted by Rikichi Yuki of a message brought for him. With Byakuya inquiring if there is an intruder, Rikichi clarifies that they do not know yet and holds up a letter from Captain-Commander Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto that was delivered by the Riteitai, which Byakuya takes from him and reads before expressing disappointment at being pulled away from the night and leaving.
Back at the gate, with other Shinigami working on repairing the damaged structure, Ikkaku stands before Kenpachi and 11th Division Lieutenant Yachiru Kusajishi as he apologizes for letting the intruder get away, only for Kenpachi to assure him it does not matter, to Ikkaku's confusion. Kenpachi notes even though the intruder was a coward for causing trouble while erasing his Reiatsu, tracking him down might kill some time and erode Kenpachi's recent boredom, which causes him to grin fiercely. Elsewhere, at a waterfall in the Human World, Uryū Ishida stands in the shallow river and recalls tearfully telling Sōken Ishida he wants to become a Quincy to protect people.
In the past, a young Uryū stands in the river with his Heilig Bogen, Kojaku, and practices drawing back a Heilig Pfeil while Sōken watches from the riverbank and advises him to hold Kojaku in the position least strenuous for him instead of straining his underarm, which Uryū acknowledges. With Sōken instructing him to pull the Heilig Pfeil straight back and simply let go of it instead of firing it, Uryū lets go of the Heilig Pfeil, resulting it hurtling into the riverbed. When Sōken explains all the basics begin from this movement and tells him to repeat this several times, Uryū complains about how difficult this is, but Sōken reminds him he does this for those he wants to protect.
Though Uryū is left confused by this statement, Sōken promises that he will understand one day. In the present, Uryū remembers Jin Kariya killing Yoshino Sōma and the latter dying in his arms while reiterating Sōken's mention of the people he wishes to protect, but suddenly recalls Sōken forming his own Heilig Bogen and asserting that there is nothing difficult about using Quincy powers beyond the basics he has just taught to Uryū since everything beyond that depends on one's heart. A weeping Uryū forms Kojaku and draws back a Heilig Pfeil as he remembers Sōken declaring that Quincy release Heilig Pfeil in order to protect the ones they cherish.
However, while recalling his past amazement at Sōken's much more powerful and farther-flying Heilig Pfeil, Uryū is unable to maintain Kojaku and the Heilig Pfeil, which fade away, leaving Uryū to fall on his hands and knees in the riverbed and cry.
Shinigami Illustrated Picture Book[]
At nighttime in Karakura Town, 10th Division Lieutenant Rangiku Matsumoto sits with Yasutora Sado, Ururu Tsumugiya, and Noba in his plushie form next to his lifeless Gigai and questions if they really needed to return Noba to his plushie at such a critical moment since his abilities are more potent in the Gigai. However, Noba reveals that there is a problem, and when Rangiku expresses confusion, Sado explains that Noba cannot synchronize his Reiatsu with someone unless he clings to their body, meaning that he would have had to wrap himself around Rangiku's chest from behind, which causes an embarrassed Noba to hide in his shell.
